Just The Way You Are

Chapter 8

Ariana's POV:

When Sandy and I arrived home, Sandy ran into the house yelling, "Mommy! Mommy!" I smiled as the small figure rushed into the house. I, unlike Sandy, took my time before entering the small house.

By the time I was inside, Ryan was already causing trouble. He was running around the house with his model airplane and mimicking airplane noise. While he was doing that, he accidentally ran into Sandy, causing her to fall backwards.

Tears quickly arrived in her eyes, I rushed to her side to make sure she wasn't hurt too much. Then I hunted Ryan down and scolded him for his bad behavior.

I entered the kitchen to find my mom washing the dishes.

"Here let me do it," I offered.

But she shook her head, "No it's okay, anyway I think it time for you to show Justin around town."

"Why does it have to me?" I complained.

"Because I'm busy and your siblings are too young," she told me sternly. "Now go."

I exited the house again and walked down the street towards his house. Once I reached the steps, I rang the bell. I could hear the sound of footsteps from inside the house, and I sighed as the door opened.

Justin's POV:

My eyes widened when I found Ariana standing at my doorsteps. We held each other gaze until my aunt came into the room.

"Justin, who was at-" she looked at Ari and smiled, "Well hello Ari, what brings you back here?"

"My mom suggested that I should show Justin around town," she answered.

"Well that sounds like a brilliant idea," Aunt Ellie chirped. Did anyone even considered what I thought? "Ok Justin be back by 9." I glared at her, but she ignored me.

Then I looked at Ari, she sighed and said, "Alright, come on let's go." She started towards the door, then looked at me. "Are you coming?"

I was startled by her abruptness and stumbled out of my seat and met up with her at the door, and we walked out the door together. There was something about her that was making me trip over myself.

While we were walking there was an awkward silence between us, but I was the one who broke it, "So... have you lived here long? I asked while kicking a rock. I knew it was a lame question, but I asked anyway.

"Not really." she hesitated as though she didn't want to talk about her past. "I moved here 3 years ago, when...." she stopped.

"I'm sorry if this is making you upset, we can talk about something else." I apologized quickly, I could see in the evening light that her eyes were tearing up. I suddenly remember I just apologize to someone I didn't know. That is not like me.

I thought about walking over and putting my arm around her shoulders to comfort her, but I remind myself that I had a girlfriend, if anyone caught me Selena would be furious.

We continued around town and she showed places that seemed really cool. We stopped by the frozen yogurt place, McDairy's, and got some yogurt. Later we were walking down the street and I could see the beach and the waves crashing on the shore.

I walked towards the beach, then I turned and beckoned Ari to come with me. She shrugged and followed me. We took off our shoes, and walked out to where the water reached our ankles. Then we strolled along the beach.

I decided to have a little fun, so I scooped up some water and flung it at Ariana. I caught her off guard and her jaw dropped open. But then a mischievous smile spread across her face, she scooped a handful of water and threw it at me.

I stuck my hands out and tried to stop the water from hitting, but to no avail. Water dripped from my hair, I glared at her and then for revenge I tackled her and we both landed in the water. When we got up, we were cracking up.

I never had so much fun with anyone before, it was like when I was with her I could relax and be myself, know it sounds cheesy. Then I caught a glimpse of her, the sunlight reflected off her hair and when she smiled, her white teeth shone brightly against her tan skin.

At that moment I knew, that was a real smile, not a fake. She look beautiful, my heart started to pick up speed and a feeling started in the pit of my stomach. What was happening? Was I falling in love?
