“Adrian wake up.” I hear Amira call from beneath me.
“I’m up.” I mumble. I feel something hit me; I lose my balance and fall to the ground. “Ow! What was that?” I stand up and she’s actually starting to laugh at me.
“A rock.” She can barely talk because she is laughing so hard.
“That hurt.”
“Oh are you ok? I didn’t mean to hurt you.” The laughter on her face is replaced by worry.
“I’ll be fine.” I try and reassure her. She smiles.
“Follow me; I want to show you something.”
“What is it?” I ask but she’s already walking away so I follow.
We walk until Amira stops in the middle of a grove of trees. There is a large marble birdbath with what looks like liquid silver in it.
“It can show the future.” Amira answers the only question hanging in the air.
“How do you know?” Amira avoids making eye contact which worries me.
“It showed you coming.”
“Wait, if you knew I was coming then why did you act so surprised when I told you who I was?” I grab her arm as she tries to walk away.
“Look it’s not like I recognized you. Where I’m from you aren’t exactly taught the faces of royalty. If you see an angel you kill it, no hesitation.” Hatred and regret fills her eyes as she looks up at me.
“I thought you said you weren’t like them.”
“I said I wasn’t an evil one, but I am still one of them.” Her eyes are almost black now as she starts to walk back the way we came. “We have to hide, before they come.”
“Before who comes?” She doesn’t say anything. “Amira, before who comes?” I run after her but she’s disappeared.
“Amira!”
“It’s no use shouting, she won’t answer.” A silky voice answers from behind me. I turn around and see someone stepping out from behind a tree.
“Who are you?” The person steps into the light. He had to be around 17, he was tall and evil seeped off of him like a disgusting stench.
“Names don’t matter. But we have to get out of here if you want to live another day.” He turns to walk away.
“Why should I trust you?”
“If you ever want to see Emya again you will.” He doesn’t look back to see if I follow but seems confident that I will. The sound of Emya’s name freezes me but then I run after the nameless boy.
“Where is she?” I grab his arm, throw him against a tree and point my knife at his throat.
“Are you referring to the vampire princess or the girl destined to save the world?”
“Where is Emya?” His eyes lighten a little at my question.
“Wrong choice. You should be more worried about the vampire that is either going to kill you, torture you, or brainwash you.” He smiles like we are old friends just talking rather than total strangers.
“Amira wouldn’t do that.”
“I got news for you pretty boy.” I look at him quizzically. “That wasn’t Amira.” That’s when I blackout.

Waking up in a strange place on a strange bed, I’m starting to sense a pattern.
“He’s awake, go tell her highness.” I hear a voice say in a commanding tone.
“Yes sir.” Someone is runs past my head and off into the distance.
“Get up.” This command is directed at me and I open my eyes. I quickly scan the room which looks like it belongs in an expensive mansion or maybe even a palace.
I try to sit up but I yell out when a blast of pain strikes my side. I throw the blanket off of myself, pull up my shirt and see a long red gash in my side.
“What did you do to me?” I yell at the guard.
“Hey don’t blame me. You had that when we found you.”
“What are you talking about? Who did this to me then?” That’s when I remember the mysterious no name. “Never mind, I know who it was.”
“Ok then, now get up.” The guard walks towards me and helps me stand.
“Who are you?” I ask him once I get my balance.
“My name is James; I am the head guard of her highness the princess.”
“You mean Amira? Where is she, is she alright?”
“I’m perfectly fine, thanks for asking.” I look up and see a girl more beautiful than any I’ve ever seen.
She is standing in the doorway dressed in an all-black mini dress and red stilettos. She has long blonde hair with almost black tips. She walks in the room and I can’t take my eyes off of her. She sits on the couch across from me and doesn’t say anything else.
“Where is Amira?” I ask breaking the silence.
“Are you talking about my sister?” She plays with her hair like nothing unusual is going on and it’s just another day. “She was pretending to be me so we could capture you.”
“Your sister?” I try to make everything make sense in my head but it doesn’t. “Wait so you’re the real Amira? And you’re a princess?”
“He’s kind of slow isn't he?” Amira says to James.
“Forgive me but I was stabbed in the side, knocked out, and woke up in a strange place. I’d like to see you deal with this.”
“Wow, smart one huh? Trust me, I’ve been through worse.” She stands up and walks over to me, she’s so close that I can see each individual freckle on her cheeks. “I’ve seen my family burn in front of my eyes Adrian, I’ve had to kill my own friends. So please forgive me if I’m not as sympathetic as you’d like.”
“Did you hurt your sister?”
“Maya is fine. See?” She points to the door she came from and there she is. Standing in the doorway now is Maya, as beautiful as ever.
“Hi Adrian.” She smiles and I smile back.
“Hi.”
“I’m sorry I lied to you but I had to.” She looks at me with pleading eyes to forgive her.
“Yeah we all know how sorry you are Maya. Boohoo. Shouldn’t you be doing your homework?” Amira rolls her eyes and closes the door before Maya can respond. “And as for you, you should get some rest. We have a lot of work to do.”
“I’m not…” I start to say but I feel something poke into my arm. I look down and see James pushing a needle of blue liquid into my arm.
“Sorry buddy, bosses orders.” I look up and the last thing I see is Amira smiling like, well, a vampire.
