As we drive into the school parking lot Fina is practically exploding in her seat.
“We look so cool, I mean come on practically nobody has a Lamborghini. Oh I’m so excited.” I roll my eyes at her remark but she was right, nobody our age has this nice of a car.
“There’s a parking space right in front.” I say as I point in the direction of the empty space.
“Oh great.” Fina drives up to the spot and right before we swing in a Black Hummer speeds up and takes the spot.
“What the heck!” Fina yells as soon as she sees the monster of a truck.
“It’s ok theirs another spot right there.” Fina pulls into the spot and is quickly out of her seat and starts to walk in the direction of the hummer so she can see who’s driving.
“Fina! Emya!” Both of us turn in the direction of the yell to see the person who called us.
“Kari!” Fina spots our friend first and quickly runs towards her. I start walking to catch up with them.
“Oh it’s so good to see you, how was your break? Whose car is that?” Kari is almost as bad as Fina; they both ask so many questions so fast it’s impossible to get a word in edgewise.
“Hi Kari. It’s my car.” I say as Fina quickly answers her other questions.
“Hey guys.” I look past Kari and I see her twin sister.
“Hey Kyla.” I walk over to her; I’ve always felt more comfortable with Kyla. She’s a lot quieter than her sister. “How have you been?”
“I’m good, you?” she responds quietly, she starts walking and I stay next to her while the chatterboxes walk behind us.
“Been good, lots of unpacking to do.” She nods. We get to our first class and all four of us walk in and take our seats.
“Hey, where’s Leeth?” Kari leans over to my desk and asks.
“I don’t know, haven’t seen her all morning.” I say right as the tardy bell rings and the last students trickle into their seats.
Our class, Geometry, starts just like another day. And today were learning about tangents and secants of circles.
“Now who knows what a secant is?” Asks Mrs. Christman. “Emya?”
“A secant is a line or line segment that touches a circle twice.” I answer without missing a beat.
“Correct, but please stop talking you four.” She gives all of us a look that says ‘or else you’re all headed to the principal’s office’.
“Sorry.” All of us mumble.
The door slams open and everyone instinctively looks to see who is late. That’s when I see Jade.
“And why are you late Miss Thorn?” Mrs. Christman is not very happy that her class has been interrupted.
“My car wouldn’t start.” Jade responds without even looking at the teacher.
“Don’t let it happen again.”
“Yeah. Whatever.” Jade doesn’t even bother to attempt a whisper. Mrs. Christman ignores the snide remark as Jade sits down in the back corner of the room. I feel something hit my desk and look down.
