The Little Mermaid ; Taekook AU [ discontinued ]

CHAPTER 2;

From then on, Taehyung visited the surface every single day, without doubt. He felt his feelings grow stronger for the human man as the time passed, even though they hadn't been able to stay next to each other for long.

As the redhead reached the surface, he spotted the dark haired male relaxing on the group of rocks where they had usually met. As he was about to shout out a "hello", he saw another man come up beside him– the same man he had seen with on the first day of laying eyes onto the mesmerising human. Taehyung decided to quietly swim towards them, eavesdropping on their conversation.

'... it's been six months, Sire. You must find a maiden from one of the kingdoms. Surely, you must have some interest? I understand your shyness, but we must find someone of your liking as soon as possible, since you are of age. Perhaps we could seek in Busan Kingdom, or a kingdom further away, such as Osaka Kingdom? Or maybe you would like to meet a commoner, I would–'

The brown haired man was quickly cut off by the younger. 'I already have someone in mind.'

'Who might that be?'

The dark haired man sat in silence for a while, then slowly shook his head. 'No, it's a bit of a secret.' He playfully stuck his tongue out, but quickly hid it in embarrassment. The other sighed, fluffing up his hair a little. 'You have a week. If you don't get this person you're interested accept what you want, I shall appoint us to see as many different maidens as possible to find a suitable one.' And with that, the green handkerchief man walked away.

The redhead was slightly confused. Kingdom? Is my love a prince?

He peeped up from the side of the rock, and the prince's dark colored eyes caught sight of him. 'Oh, hello again!' His face instantly lit up, a bunny smile painted on his rosy face. The teal tailed mermaid shifted a little, unable to respond to him. 'Hm? What's the matter?' The dark haired male sat up.

'Are you a prince?' Taehyung finally asked.
The prince's face quickly fell. 'Oh... that... er... yes... I am.' Hesitantly looking at the other in the eye, an apologetic face was written all over him. 'Listen, I–'

And with that, the mermaid quickly dove back underwater, eyes submerged with not just the saltwater, but tears as well.

Three days have past, since the last time Taehyung had last seen his prince.

Jimin was getting quite worried. The tropical fish quietly swam towards his heartbroken mermaid friend, snuggling up on his fluffy red hair.

'Taehyung, why don't we get some of that fresh air up above?'

No response.

'I bet it's beautiful being in that horrid— uh, I mean, relaxing sun heat!'

Not even a little smirk.

'That prince guy was obviously also interested in you. You need to see him, you know.'

Finally, the teal tailed mermaid seemed to be paying attention.

'I guess...' he mumbled, reluctantly swimming up to the surface.

As the redhead looked around, he noticed the dark haired male sailing by boat, making his heart drop with a loud clunk! sound. 'He's probably going to go visit whatever love he has from a different kingdom...' Taehyung solemnly hung head head low and headed for the group of rocks, hiding himself in the shade. At the same time, the sky seemed to be getting darker by every second, indicating a storm coming. The small fish tried his best to comfort his friend, but was unable to do anything, apart from hugging his arm tightly.

Little did the mermaid know, was that his prince was not going out to another kingdom,
but was out looking for him.

'Taehyung, that's nonsense, why would he be going out at a time like this? It's going to get stormy soon.' Jimin understands how much the prince means to his best friend. 'Yeah? He must love her a lot.' A bitter response was spilt out of the redhead's lips.

'Come on. We'll just watch him, and verify what he wants to do... and stuff... then we can mope about it. Right? And if he is going to marry someone else, there's nothing you can do to be honest, so let him go at that stage, okay?' The small fish nudged the mermaid on the arm, gesturing him to follow. As Taehyung's mood darkened, the sky was getting even heavier, about to spill tears.

Reaching the wooden built boat, Jimin's small eyes spotted the dark haired prince looking out afar into the sea, looking very sombre. His eyes were puffy and baggy, looking slightly red, as if he was crying, or simply exhausted.

All of a sudden, a flash of light followed by a loud bang-like noise appeared, startling the little fish and mermaid.

What was that?! Taehyung watched the sea as the waves became more and more violent as the seconds passed, the current becoming a little too strong. Jimin was very close to be pulled away by the tide, but the redhead quickly reached for him instinctively. 'I've got you, Jimin.' he said.

Before the mermaid knew it, the little boat was flipped by the waves, overthrowing the helpless human who was aboard on deck. Taehyung quickly went in to dive, before anything else could happen to him.

He looked still; lifeless under the water. It hurt so much to know that someone you love can't be with you, no matter how hard you tried. The redhead quickly scooped up the prince towards the surface, while the soaked boat crashed into the rocks, breaking into many different splinter pieces. Not long after, the stormy sky began to magically clear up, and the surging sea felt calmer.

As the teal tailed mermaid brought the unconscious prince to shore, he began to sing quietly, hoping that he would sing back whenever he woke up.

Please, please wake up. Taehyung laid his head on the other's chest, feeling a beating sound from within.

That must mean... he's still alive...?! The mermaid sat up, continuously shaking the sleeping prince gently.

Slowly, but surely, the raven head's eyes opened. As soon as they had fully opened, the redhead opened his mouth to speak. 'Are... you okay?' The prince gave a sleepy smile, making the other blush red. Before he could say anything, a voice could be heard from not too far away. 'Prince Jungkook!' Is that his name? Jungkook?

To avoid being seen by others, Taehyung quickly flopped back into the waters, and reluctantly swam back home.

As the teal tailed mermaid arrived home, in the large castle, he laid quietly on his bed. 'Oh Prince Jungkook... I wish I was worthy enough for you... but I'm a male, not a female, I'm not even born into royalty, and I'm a mermaid, not a human!...' he said to himself.

Unbeknownst to him, there was someone who could change one of these things.
