***TO ANYONE READING THIS CHAPTER FOR THE FIRST TIME: I just recently updated the previous chapter to a completely new version, therefore, this one might not make sense right now. I apologize for any confusion, but the editing process for every part will take some time. Stay tuned to see when I get the story on track!

Rosetta felt her stomach lurch as Charlotte pulled away from the student parking lot. They had ran for nearly five minutes straight, and although neither of them felt rather athletic, there was a noticeable difference in their levels of panting.

"Do you...do track and field, or something?" Rosetta huffed. Charlotte smirked and glanced at her as she put the tiny powder blue car into drive. She said nothing.

The two of them sped away from the campus parking lot, the frame of the car jostling over every uneven patch of road. Rosetta silently thanked God; had it not been for the extremely long line in the cafeteria that afternoon, perhaps she would have eaten a heavy meal...and then proceeded to release it all over Charlotte's dashboard.

"They must not have put the school into lock down yet." The red head finally spoke as the car breezed past the open gates of Collingwood University. The 'welcome' sign in the rear view mirror looked a bit eerie, and Rosetta had a terrible, gnawing feeling in her stomach that she wouldn't be seeing it again for a long time.

Or maybe that was just from Charlotte's shitty driving.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they kept the police there overnight." Rosetta craned her neck to look back at the residence buildings fading from view; the blue and red lights that lapped at the brick walls were a stark contrast to the inky black sky. "We're just lucky the security guards didn't catch us on the way out." She turned back around, letting out a shaky breath, all thoughts of ever returning escaping with it.

Charlotte's grey eyes met Rosetta's deep brown ones for a split second as the car groaned to a stop. The fair skinned girl was visibly less concerned than her counterpart, an expression nearing boredom written on her face. She cocked an eyebrow before speaking.

"Do you think anyone saw us leave?"

For such a serious question with potentially dangerous consequences, Charlotte's voice was unwavering. She spoke those words the way someone would ask 'Do I have any mustard on my face?'.

Rosetta suddenly felt very dizzy and had to close her eyes for a moment. She breathed deeply, trying not to think about all the people who could have spotted them in the parking lot. She also tried not to think about how soon the police would speak to witnesses, or what she would have to do if Charlotte bailed the way her other friends had, or if Charlotte thought it was strange that after all this time, after everything, she was the person she went to first--

Rosetta swallowed and opened her eyes as the light changed to green.

If Charlotte thought that little moment was strange, or if she was considering abandoning her, she said nothing. Then again, she had a tendency to go quiet in the most unusual circumstances.

Rosetta chewed the inside of her lip and watched the tall pine trees slipping past her window.

"Nobody saw us." She said into the quiet of the car. She prided herself on getting those words out without her voice faltering. "We went out the back entrance, we were smart about it. Nobody saw us."

This time, Charlotte didn't hesitate when she replied.

"Nobody saw us."

Whether either of the girls believed the things they were saying, each of them felt a tiny bit better, and they silently refused to bring it up again for fear of confronting what they both knew to be true.
