Chapter 24: Chaos
Noah's POV:
Everyone was gathered near the stream that ran through the territory. It was meant to be a celebration before we went to retrieve Clauida, but little did they know that she was already here. I looked up and grinned a wolfy smile when I saw the shimmering silhouette of a redhawk fly over head. I was just waiting for the signal from Clauida, then the pack would flood in from all sides and we would destroy them.
"Ok everyone, ready?" Clauida's angelic voice drifted through the link.
"They are oblivious down here." I replied to the pack.
"Go." The one word made adrenaline rush through me. I tensed my muscles, listening carefully for the thundering of paws, but nothing came.
I looked to the sky where I saw a single figure diving towards the earth. This must be something I hadn't been informed about. The hawk suddenly split, and instead of creature landing in the middle of the clearing, there were three.
"Surprise." Clauida sent through our private link.
The red hawk I recognized Clauida's, but the other two could have been her too. They all had the same eyes, the same build, but just different colors. One was blue, reminding me of her water wolf form and the other was pitch black. Looking into the eyes of the black hawk was like feeling the first effects of the mating bond all over again, but I couldn't possibly have two mates, or three for that matter.
Before I could reply the hawks dispersed, each launching themselves at a random member of the Hallows pack. Howls filled the air as the hawks tore apart their victims, a few rushed to help them out, but most just sat and watched in confusion.
Within moments, dozens of wolves filled the clearing, surrounding the pack from all side, I looked to Justin, and nodded my head in approval. I launched myself at the nearest member of the Hallows Luna pack, fueled with pride for my pack. The wolf was wild, and didn't see it coming when I snapped my jaws at his exposed stomach. I heard a few gurgled words escape his mouth before he turned to defend himself. As I tried to roll away from the snappy jaws, he caught my hind leg and bit down. Thinking quick, I gouged his exposed eyes with my free foot, allowing me a moment to get to my feet. The wolf was already losing blood fast, the open wound of his stomach dripping steadily. I took my open opportunity to jump onto his back, and grasp his neck in my mouth. I crashed my haws around his windpipe and snapped his neck quickly. One wolf down. The red hawk fluttered down beside me,
"It was wild wasn't it." Clauida asked.
"Yes, but oddly enough, it could still speak, we need to keep a few alive to learn about this." I replied looking intensely unto her blue eyes.
"Don't worry, we'll handle it." She said as she fluttered close to me to nuzzle her beak into my dusty fur. It was a wash of relief that my own mate was here to touch me again, now I just had to focus on this battle.
The black hawk was soon behind Clauida, the blue one shorty afterwards. Clauida nodded to them and I was no longer facing three black hawks, but three beautiful wolves. Clauida's original silvery-blue, Aqua in all her aquatic glory, and a pitch black wolf with strange black flames trailing from her body. As Clauida returned to look over me in her current form, I could feel the tension rise around Clauida, the air began to warm up. The black female was feeling similarly clearly because her actions were mirroring those of my mates. I couldn't help but wonder who these two new wolves were, and how they were related to Clauida, but before I could ask I was shoved abruptly sideways, a snarl tore through the air. I was on the ground for a split second, but I could tell something drastic had happened. The temperate around me was blistering, anger thick in the air. I heard to simultaneous growls before I was able to get back to my feet and see my mate and the black wolf tearing apart my aggressor. When they had finished, Clauida turned to me with such a burning hatred in her eyes it scared me. Slowly, her luscious grey fur changed into a deep black matching that of the wolf next to her. The faint black whisps that had been on the black wolf before were now burning with fury. The last thing I noticed was the flash when her eyes changed from their deep blue to a livid red.
"Clauida?" I asked timidly through our link.
I got no answer but watched closely as the two black wolves advanced towards me, the intensity in their eyes burning holes into mine. We were face to face, it was two to one, the heat from the fires were unbearable, but I stood my ground. Finally they each reached out a paw to touch the two of mine, and I felt a burning sensation rush through me, it was the most painful think I've ever experienced, but then again it was the most pleasurable.
"Mate!" The three of us growled into the open air.
The two black wolves wove their way around me, rubbing against my sides, I was getting unfocused, thorn was begging for control, but I had a battle to win.
"Clauida!" I woofed aloud, startled by my own husky voice she stopped to look at me.
"Shit, I did it again." She replied, looking into my eyes, they had returned back to their blue color and I looked on as the color returned to coat.
"What just happened?" I asked via our link.
"I'll explain later, but we have to meet Aqua to get my aunt." She replied softly.
"Be careful." I purred aloud as I nuzzled her neck.
Then as quick as they all came, they were gone, and I was left more confused than before.
Clauida's POV
I galloped through the woods with Eris beside me, I was frustrated with myself, I had let that side of me take control.
"But then again, NOBODY should be harming our mate." Eris growled. After laying eyes on Noah, she immediately fell for him.
It was weird to be able to talk in this form, unnatural. I needed to find out what caused them to do this. It was to late to concentrate on that though, because My own scent was growing stronger, we were nearing my Aunt and Aqua.
"I'm right inside, it seems empty for the most part around here." She informed through our link.
I saw the squat concrete structure up ahead saw Aqua standing in the doorway.
"I caught her scent, but it's mostly blood. We are gonna need more help," Aqua said quietly.
Seeing the open door with stairs leading down I shoved past my two counterparts and flung myself down the stairs. Once at the bottom, the scent of metallic blood hung thick in the dank air. Hearing Aqua and Eris behind me I set off down the long row of cells. The cells had tattered bundles of fur huddled in the corners as we passed, and I promised I would come back for them. At the end of the row I caught sight of my aunt, curled into the fetus position in the far corner of the cell. A long cut ran vertically up her arm, along with some other minor scrapes and bruises. Anger bubbled inside of me, along with guilt. I could have prevented this, but I was too caught up in the rest of my silly life. I shift into my human form and retrieved the keys from Aqua's mouth before shoving them in the lock and turning. The door unlocked but as I went to shove the door open, I felt a severe burning sensation run up my arm. I let out a sharp cry in pain.
"It's made of silver, goddammit!" Eris barks aloud.
"What does that have to do with anything?" I asked. Of course Aqua was the one to answer my question,
"Werewolves are allergic to silver, it's our weakness. Touching it will cause severe burns, ingesting it even in a small amount is fatal."
"But we aren't werewolves." I reply.
"Aqua and I are, but you, you aren't." Eris interjects.
"So if I shift into something else..."
"You should be unharmed, but no promises." Aqua warns.
Making my decision, I shift into my hawk form and prepare to slam myself into the door. I launch myself at the door, wincing as I make contact with the silver. It is still painful, but not as bad as when I tried to open it in my human form. I dropped to the dirty concrete ground and shifted into my human form as quickly as possible. Scooting closer to my tattered aunt I felt anxiety flare inside of me. She hadn't looked so bad far away, but up close the true extent of her injuries were visible. The gash that tore open her arm was down to the bone in parts, some of her bruises a deep purple. I looked to her back and an enraged snarl tore from my lips, it looked as if someone had cut her skin so that the scars would form some sort of picture, however what it was now was unclear. Dried blood stained her strawberry blonde hair a covered the back of her neck. Her breathing seemed uneasy, her heartbeat fluttery. I hoped she would make a full recovery and not remember any of this.
I went to move her when I realized it was perfectly silent. No panting from Eris or Aqua, no sounds of battle. I froze, afraid that someone was down here, but I was to late to see what was coming.
My face was smashed into the concrete and I cried when I felt the bones in my nose crack. I could feel the blood pour down my face. I was grabbed by the back of my neck and swung into the crumbling wall, which scratched me roughly as I slid to the ground. I opened my eyes, and although my vision was swimming I made out my attacker. He was a scraggly man who looked like he didn't belong on two legs. He was surrounded with an air of superiority and had the happiest of looks on his face.
"My dear goddess, what have you done?" The man asked sweetly, his dark eyes scrutinizing every inch of me.
"I am not your goddess." I spat at him.
"How are you so sure? You are a shifter, the water wolf, and the black flame Luna. How are you NOT the goddess." He hissed as he slunk forward awkwardly.
"I refuse to be your goddess!" I growled defensively. The anger was building inside of me, my hands balling into fists.
"My dear, but it is your rightful place to rule us, and you will dammit!" He yelled at me before throwing a punch to my right cheek.
Recovering quickly, I shuffled myself back into a seated position, the throbbing in my cheek fueling my hate fire. I felt a surge of power as Eris and Aqua returned back to my body. I felt myself shifting, but this was different, it was as if all three of us were simultaneously controlling one body. We launched ourselves at the man, throwing him into the silver bars behind him, he let out a sharp cry. A burning sensation starting in my chest and traveling down to my paws caused us to rear up as a silver ball of flames flew into the attacker.
I dropped down to the ground, my own blood covering the ground, I knew my aunt and I would need help, I just prayed someone would find us,
"I need help, I'm in the bunker...please come quick." Is the last thing that I managed to get through before I sank into darkness.
