Melanie was a strange girl.

She knew that.

People would look at her weirdly because of the way she dressed.

She didn't care.

That's how it seemed.

People would judge her.

Because they thought that she didn't care.

She cared.

Everyday she'd come home and bawl through an episode of 90210.

Not because it was sad.

It was because she was hurt.

Nobody stopped to get to know her.

They only judged her because of her actions.

She had a crush on a boy at her school.

His name was Calum.

He was a jock but he was one of the nicer, shyer ones.

He told people he wasn't Asian but no one believed him.

He was cute and Melanie admired that.

They were both sophomores. Melanie would try to get him to notice her by touching his shoulder.

She did this daily.

Most times he would play along.

Others he would sit still and smile.

This lead to his friends telling her that she liked him.

She replied by telling them just because she touches someone's shoulder, a part of the body that is not apart of the intimacy category, doesn't mean she's showing interest.

They often didn't understand.

They'd continue to say these things.

The day approached.

A day that would change her life forever.

She didn't know it would but it would.

It was a normal day for Mel.

She woke up, took a shower, brushed her teeth, and put on her makeup.

Melanie was beautiful.

Everyone knew that.

It's just they didn't understand why she didn't treat her body well.

It was because she didn't like it.

She hated herself.

She thought her hair was too tangled and frizzy so she dyed it two colors on each side.

She thought her cheeks were always blushing so she put on a lot of blush to act as if it was always there.

She thought her eyes were too small so she put a lot of white on her water line.

She wore pastel colors because she knew her skin looked better with it.

She thought her ankles were crooked so she wore socks that went just above them.

She was a mess.

It was easy to see when you looked deep into her eyes.

Calum asked her out that day.

It was at lunch where her daily hurt took place today.
