Y/N POV
"Y/N! Come on hun, it's time to go" my mum said to me, finishing up her grown up talking with the other mums.

"But muuuuuuuuuuummmmmm" I protest, " Natsu and me we're just about to go on a mission". I turn to the salmon haired boy as the smile slowly fades from his face, disappointed to have to put an end to our fun.

"Is that so? I bet it was an S-Class mission as well?" She exclaims as she makes her way over to us. But how did she know? It was a top secret mission, much harder than the S-Class ones, but me and Natsu could take it.

"How did you know?" I ask her shocked.

She lets out a small chuckle and replies, "Because I know everything, now come on it's time to say goodbye to everyone, we have to go".

I frown and open my mouth to protest something along the lines of 'five more minutes' but the look on her face tells me I'd better not. I pick up my jacket that was thrown off within minutes of arriving, and stand up alongside my mother.

"Bye Natsu, I really had fun playing with you today" I say to him, trying to bring back the hope in his eyes.

"Don't worry Natsu," my mum starts, noticing the upset between us, " Y/N can come back and play tomorrow, I promise". At this the both of us light up instantly, at the promise of us finishing the really hard mission tomorrow.

"Okay then, I'll see you tomorrow Y/N" Natsu says, a smirk playing on his lips.

And as we leave the guild I turn around and wave at the fire Mage and at once he waves back. I took the walk home as an opportunity to tell my mum about all the things that me and Natsu had planned, that would certainly last until long into the future.

10 Years Later

"You're sure you don't need anything else?" She said. My mum stood in front of me, flicking between the time on her watch and the way my clothes crumpled in places and not in others.

"Yes mum, I'm sure. We packed everything together, remember?"I said with a smile. No matter how many times she checked and double checked, she was never ready to let me go.

"Oh yes you're right. Now don't forget to get off at the right stop, and-". I cut her off with a hug, which she gladly accepted.

"Come on mum, I'm 17 now. I'm sure I can live on my own for a few months, and I'll write everyday, it'll be like I never left" I reassured her.

"And don't forget to tell me about all of these exciting missions you'll be going on, but do remember to stay safe for me-"

This time the signal from the train cut her off. We both turned and with tears in our eyes said goodbye, for now at least. As soon as I entered the carriage I leaned out of the window and waved until the platform was long out of view.

The train ride to Magnolia was long enough so that I could allow my mind to slip into an alternate reality for a while, and think about what I was going to say and do once I got there.

I need to find a place to stay, and a form of income. I could always join a guild, I've never really thought of that. I remember one from when I was little, but I can't remember much. Maybe that would be a good place to start.

I get off the train shortly after, and instantly feel change. The people were different, the trees were different, the atmosphere was different. But not in a bad way, more like a clean slate, I second chance.
The streets were bursting with life and colour, and everyone seemed to have a job, like bees in a hive. Only I was the bird outside of the hive, who couldn't understand how everything worked so efficiently, and was baffled at what they had created.
