I let out a scream as the creature knocked me to the ground. I looked at the creature and could clearly see it was a wolf, but the eyes looked familiar... Before Evan or I could react, the wolf slowly morphed into a human. It was then I realised why those eyes looked familiar. It was Tony. I gasped and hugged him tightly, “I thought I’d never see you again.”
He smiled and hugged me back, “Me too. I’m really sorry.”
“What happened?”
“It’s a long story. I promise I’ll explain it soon. So, anything new?”
“Yeah. I found out I’m allergic to chocolate,” I replied.
“Oh. I probably should’ve mentioned that earlier,” he said, looking sheepish.
“Yeah, you should’ve. I nearly died.”
“Ouch. Sorry. Anything else?”
“Yeah... I’m...” I looked down, “I’m pregnant.”
“Oh... Wow. I assume... I’m the father?”
I nodded shyly. He beamed and hugged me, “That’s wonderful.”
“Yeah...” I heard a cough and looked at Evan, “Oh right. Evan, this is Tony. Tony, Evan.”
Tony looked down, “Yeah, about that. I’ve had to protect my identity, so I’m calling myself Mike now”
“Oh... What’s going on exactly?” I asked. House trashed, change of name. Something odd was happening.
“I’m not entirely sure myself. Some guys in military gear came and attacked the place.”
I was shocked, “What?”
Mike nodded, “Don’t think I’ll be able to go back.”
“Why don’t you come and stay with me for a while?” Evan suggested.
“Oh no. I wouldn’t want to be a burden.”
“You wouldn’t. I’ll show you now if you want.”
“Err, sure.” He held my hand, “Come on, babe.” I followed him as he followed Evan through the forest.
“Well, here we are,” Evan said about ten minutes later. I wouldn’t have known if he hadn’t pointed it out. “As you can see, it’s well camouflaged for obvious reasons.” He went in and held the door open, “Come in.”
We went inside and were amazed at how up-to-date it looked. All the mod-cons and then some. Evan led us into the living room, where there was a female wolf asleep on the couch. Evan smiled, “That’s my companion. Her name’s Accalia, which is Latin for she wolf.”
I smiled, “That’s a wonderful name.”
“Mhm. And yes, she is a werewolf too. She just likes to spend most of her time as a wolf.”
“Awesome.”
Accalia slowly woke up wagging her tail and yawned.
“Hey there, Accalia. We have visitors. This is Rebecca and... Mike, was it?” Mike nodded. Accalia bowed her head in greeting and simply said “Hi.” I casually waved in her direction as she rested her head on the sofa again.
Evan went over to a window and looked outside at the sky, “Hunter’s moon tonight.”
“What moon?” I asked.
“Hunter’s moon. The first full moon after the Harvest moon,” he smiled, “My favourite full moon.” I was none the wiser at this explanation but didn’t ask any further.
