Jacqueline had broken up with Adam, liked Thomas, and couldn't choose. Now, she didn't have a date to the prom in a month. She was planning on going with Adam, but that path was at a dead end. She was thinking of asking Thomas if he would go with her, but she doubted he would say yes. So there she was. Alone. Jacqueline just felt a tap on her shoulder and as she was turning around, she saw who it was. "Liam, I don't wanna talk to you right now. You know what happened. You are the one who told the whole school."

"I know, but you think that it was easy for me to see you with Adam? I have liked you since we were in 4th grade together. Remember?"

"Really? You were upset that I was dating...him. So much in fact that after we broke up, you told everyone?!"

"Not everyone. Just one person."

"Who?"

"Just Peter. He must've told others and it escalated from there."

"Fine. I don't care. Now why are you standing here talking to me?"

"Since you don't have a boyfriend anymore,"

"Great way to start."

"Sorry. Since you aren't currently in a relationship that I know of, I was wondering if you might go to prom with me."

"Sure. Why not? Come pick me up at 267 Everland Ave. Wear a tux, obviously no plaid. Bow tie."

"Can I have your number? Maybe I can call you sometime and we can hang out."

"Here. Give me your phone."
Jacqueline entered her number into his phone and he typed his into hers.

"Great. I'll call you."

"Okay. See you in third."

"Bye. And Jacqueline, thanks so much."

That night, Jacqueline got a call confirming that the car crash victims were her parents and that the two of them had consumed a great amount of alcohol that night. After she hung up, she ran to Thomas' house and told him what happened with her parents.

"Oh man. That's rough. If you need to, you can stay here. We can set up the pullout couch in the basement or I could come live with you."
"We'll come here. I don't want you to do all that for us."

"Okay. I'll help you come pack."

"Fine."

Jacqueline knew that she couldn't win that fight.

"Before we go, could we talk first?"

"Sure. What's up, J?"

"First of all, I don't want you taking this the wrong way."

"Alright."

"Okay. Do you like me? I mean, like-like me? Not as friends?"

"Why does that concern you?"

"Promise me you won't freak out?"

Thomas nodded. Jacqueline took a deep breath in and leaned in to kiss Thomas. Her hands found their way to the back of his neck and she pulled him in. Thomas didn't stop her. When Jacqueline pulled away, Thomas asked, "What was that for?"

"That was the answer to your question. It does concern me."

"Well, it concerns me too." He smiled at her and leaned in, his hands in her hair, messing it up. Her arms were around him. He smiled against her lips and kissed her more.
