I looked up at my friends carrying their own conversation. Not even realizing what state of depression I'm in. It's not like I can blame them. They can only help if I show them I need help. But what's the point. It's not like they understand anyway. No one really quite understands. Except those who go through it. But lets be honest, how many orphan kids go to this school? Not a lot, I'll tell you that.
"Hey Red, man get out of your head. Life is gonna pass you by if you don't converse more." Warned my best friend Ross. We've been best friends since kindergarten. Kindergarten was a great time. Back then I had both of my parents, my future was great and I was happy and worry free. I was also a handful. Getting into trouble was my specialty. I once got a spanking everyday because I refused to go to sleep. For an entire summer my mom had to bring the belt to my but.
But you know what they say. Hard head leads to a soft bottom.
" You know I'm only thinking about how bad I'm gonna kick your ass in some madden later today. I can already see it now. Me intercepting all of your passes like it was meant to be thrown to me. Watching you cry in defeat, while I dance in victory." I smiled and got up to do a mock version of my victory dance.
" Man sit down, You look like a deranged turkey!" Called out Ross. I laughed. I knew well enough I couldn't dance to save my life. I just liked embarrassing him. "So Strawberry, what did you think of that Diana girl's prank. Gotta hand it to her kid's got guts huh." He said taking a bite out of his apple he knew how much I disliked her. And yet I admired her. She did have the guts to pull some things that not even he had imagined. And for that she had his respect.
"I mean it was good, and kinda funny but so so so elementary." Okay so I was a little upset that I hadn't thought of it first. But it was kinda basic. There was no pizzazz.
" Any fool can throw an egg. It takes a real prankster, like myself of course, to make it unforgettable." I say turning to face my friends. I'm not gonna lie I was feeling myself. I was one of the greatest ones out there. Shoot I was untouchable.
" Shut up Caleb, we all know you got a thing for D. Just admit man." Ross took another bite out of his burger. This man is insane. Me and Diana? That doesn't even look right. " You know good and well she isn't my type. I'm into the sweet girls. Y'know the girls that won't stab you in the back if you cheat." I said as I stole a fry from his tray. She has no meaning, no substance. "You know she acts a lot like you. I mean if y'all didn't see each other as competition-", I cut him off right there. "Don't go spitting that mess again man. I wouldn't go for her if she and I were the last two alive. You know that. I like the nerds, and once you get that through your head we'll be golden." I said pushing his face down into a plate full of ketchup. I take off as soon as he lifts his face up. I know I probably have about five seconds to live unless I out run him.
I run out of the cafeteria and through the crowd of people that lingered in the hallway. Bumping into people and tripping a few times I finally make it to the square. There I saw the prettiest girl I've ever seen. She wasn't too tall or too short. This was the girl that I had a thing for. Natalie Foreman. I've secretly admired her from afar for the longest. Not to be a stalker or anything but she was just so beautiful. On the inside as well as the out. I knew I had no chance. I once overheard her talking to herself about her crush on Nani. It didn't bother me that she was bi, but it did bother me that her best friend couldn't see just how amazing Nat is. A second later I was on the ground with a hair full of dirt no doubt . "Ha, gotcha carrot top!" Exclaimed Ross as he pushed me further into the ground with his arm. "Get off of me you big dweeb. You're dripping ketchup on my shirt." I said pushing him off of me.
I got up to look to see Nat one more time but she was gone. "Dude, who are you looking for?"
"Nobody."
