The irony of life

I asked for something nice
Life gave me a packet of thorns
They pricked my finger
Bringing out blood

I asked life for some flowers
I was given dry leaves from a dead tree
A bouquet was later given
To someone but not me

I just wanted to be happy
Why is life so unfair
It takes more than it gives
Now I'm left in despair

She asked for a slice of bread
Life gave her the entire bakery
She asked for just a friend
Life gave her a loyal army

Is hapiness too much to ask for
Because I can't seem to understand
Why is life so unfair
What will life offer in the end
