Earlier that week, the will of The Cosmos was being made manifest through the argument between a teen aged boy waking for his first day back at school, and his mother, who was doing the waking.

"But if I get up that means summer is officially over, and that would be a sad thing, so I'm not gonna do it," Porter Enfer groaned into his pillow, pulling his covers further over himself in a pitiful attempt to hide. From the other side of his door, his mother's voice answered him.

"Summer's already up and gone hun, which is what you should be doing to."

" But.... Sleep," Porter whimpered.

"Porter..." The sweet tone of his mother turned dangerous. Before she could even voice whatever threat she was going to employ, Porter was suddenly up and holding his door open.

"Fine, i'm up. Hope you're happy, you just killed summer." His mother smiled sweetly.

"Very, now get going!" She said as she started down the hall.

Twenty minutes later, Porter was showered, dressed, and standing before Coast High, about to enter his senior year of high school. He looked up at the imposing building, which had just been remodeled. It was now of a more modern style, made mostly of glass and smooth cut stone. The words "Coast High" were emblazoned above the entrance in a deep turquoise, just over an image of the school mascot, a half human half fish creature wielding a trident. The Coast High Mer-Man. It was a lame mascot in Porters opinion. Better than others though. Their rival school, Port City High were known as the "Seamen." Yeah, he thought to himself, it could definitely be worse.

"Porter! You gonna just stand there all day or are you going to actually do something with your life?" A familiar voice called from behind him. Porter grinned, turning to see Adam johnston, his lifelong best friend walking up to him. He was clad in torn up jeans, a black shirt that sported the logo of some band Porter was unfamiliar with, and his backpack was slung over his shoulder. It annoyed his parents to no end.

"Thought It'd give you a chance to finally catch up with me!" Porter said as his friend reached him. Adam laughed.

"Very funny, you know I could outrun you anytime I wanted to."

"Oh really? Care to prove it?" Porter challenged. Adam grinned.

"Let's do this old man." Porter raised an eyebrow at that.

"Old man? I'm a month younger than you."

"Oh that's right!" Adam said, smacking his forehead in an overtly exaggerated motion, "I always forget, you move so slow it's hard to remember you're not an eighty year old man." He laughed as he took off for the school, Porter in hot pursuit.

Gwen Stregone and her twin sister Meg were staring intently at posted map of the school just inside the commons, glancing back and forth between their schedules and the board, when they heard a loud thump to their left. They both turned and looked to see a redheaded boy plastered to the glass of one of the six glass doors that were the entrance to the school. The door to his left was flung open, and a well tanned auburn haired boy tried to stepped through casually, a skip to his step and a wry grin on his face. The redhead followed him in, pretend offense on his face.

"Hey! That's cheating!" Adam complained, rubbing his face. Porter laughed.

"You're just sore that I won."

"No," Adam argued, "I'm just plain sore. I was most recently shoved into a door." Porter snickered, then noticed two blonde girls watching them. He didn't recognize them, though obviously they were twins. They were standing next to the map of the school. Without much thought, Porter began walking over to them. Adam was at first confused, but realized that Porter was walking towards a set of gorgeous twins and followed without complaint.
