"No Maya! I don't want to!" Riley exclaimed as she tossed "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" back into the pile of other debatable date movies. "Why? Ya scared?" Maya teasingly questioned Riley with a goofy smirk of her face.
Maya and Riley had their Friday movie
night at Riley's house and it was Maya's turn to pick out the movie. They had been debating either "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "Legally Blonde" for the last 10 minutes.
"Come on Riles... It's just a movie. Plus, it is my turn to pick." Maya added an emphasis on the word "my" as she reached back into the pile to retrieve the horror movie. "But, peaches..." Riley grabbed Maya's hand and stared into Maya's eyes. Riley gazed into Maya's eyes giving her the best puppy dog eyes ever. Riley knew this would win Maya over because Maya always cracked from those beautiful brown eyes. Maya snapped her head, "Nuh-uh that will not work on me ever again." Riley was determined. She shifted her position so she was facing her stubborn girlfriend. Maya looked back for half a second. "Yes, this is it" Riley thought to her self. "Nope! Not tonight babe!" Maya said as she looked away once again. Riley finally gave up, "Fine. I guess I'll just have to admire young Reese Witherspoon by myself some other time." Riley explained as she folded her arms. Maya rolled her eyes playfully. "There is always next Friday, Riles." Maya explained as she lightly tapped Riley's nose. "Nope! Not if whoever is massacring the people in this movie gets to us!!" Riley stated with her voice slightly shaking. Maya reached out and gently unfolded Riley's arms. "Hey. Look at me. You will be fine. I promise. I am right here." Maya reassured her girlfriend then gently kissed her hand. Maya leaped off of the couch and stuck the DVD into the DVD player. "Shall I make some popcorn?" Maya asked as she was about to sit back down. Riley gave her a confused look, "Eat? During this movie? I'll be surprised if I can even keep my eyes open during it!" Riley said. "Well okay then. I try to be a cute girlfriend and make some nice popcorn but nooo!" Maya said playfully. Riley smiled at her and patted the spot next to her on the couch. Maya followed Riley's suggestion and returned to the couch. Maya was on the end while Riley was curled up next to her. "Pssst" Riley whispered. "Could you get me a blanket peaches?" Riley quietly asked. "You know we are at your house and not the movie theatre right? You can talk at normal volume." Maya nearly shouted. "Maya! Auggie is sleeping!" Riley whispered in a shouting voice. Maya scoffed, "right like that kid is asleep." A few moments had passed by and finally all of the DVD's trailers were over. "Maya! Where is my blanket!?" Riley exclaimed. "Fine. I'll go get your damn blanket. Spoiled much?" Maya pressed the play button on the remote and got up to get a nice blanket for the two of them to share. "Whipped much?" Riley spat back. The two of them had been teasing each other more. Maya's personality had slightly rubbed off on Riley so it isn't rare that the two will sass each other, but it was always flirty teasing. The movie had started and Maya still wasn't back yet. "MAYA!" Riley yelled. "Hey chill out. I'm right here babe." Maya said as she brought over the biggest fluffiest blanket. Riley smiled and grabbed the blanket happily. Maya sat down and Riley snuggled up to her.
The pair spent the next two hours watching the horror movie. Many moments Riley would just shut her eyes and turn her head into Maya's body. Maya would secure her. The movie came to a cliché ending and finally Riley could relax. "Hey look. You survived." Maya looked down at Riley who now had her body sprawled out on the couch with her head on Maya's lap. "Tired?" Maya asked as she played with Riley's hair. "Lil bit. I'm too scared to fall asleep right now though." Riley explained. "Well let's get on upstairs to your room and get you ready for bed." Maya said in her caring voice. "You aren't staying?" Riley asked. "Riles, are you kidding me? Your dad would go insane if he found out I didn't leave. He trusts me enough to leave by myself. I don't want to lose his trust." Maya explained to her sleepy girlfriend whose eyes were already about to close. "Alright come on sleepy head" Maya said as she moved Riley to walk to her room. Once they got up there, Riley brushed her teeth, changed into her pajamas and got in bed. Maya sat next to her and didn't move. "Maya, what are you doing?" Riley questioned. Maya was looking at her fingernails, "What me? Oh, you know... just chilling out, relaxin, maxing, shooting some bball-" Riley cut her off before she could finish the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. "No really. You just told me you couldn't stay." Riley said as she grabbed Maya's hand. "Oh yeah. I think I have changed a lot since then and you know what? there is room for mistakes in life and I just had a huge change of heart- you know. I grew up" Maya joked as if staying was some big decision. Riley started laughing. "Maya Penelope Hart. Get out of my room before my dad comes in here and has a heart attack." Riley said as she pointed to the bay window. "No." Maya softly said. "Why? Ya scared?" Riley teased using the words Maya used earlier when she refused to watch the movie. "Heeey." Maya noticed this and looked at Riley with her eyes squinted. "I only learned from the best!" Riley goofed. A brilliant idea then popped into Maya's head. She turned and gave Riley the biggest, most adorable puppy eyes ever. Riley looked at her for half a second, "Heeey! You are using my technique!" Riley pointed out. "I only learned from the absolute best." Maya replied with wit in her voice. Maya reached out and placed her hand on Riley's chin, turning her head so she would stare into Maya's eyes. 3 seconds later and Riley had cracked. "Okay! Okay! Fine!" Maya grinned wide. She jumped off the bed and opened up a chester drawer. She grabbed one of Riley's big T-shirts. She took off her clothes and put on the t-shirt. She hopped back into Riley's bed and snuggled herself right into Riley. "You will be fine. I promise. I am right here." Riley whispered into Maya's ear. Maya smiled. Even though she regretted watching that movie it was worth being the little spoon. The fear was worth the comfort. Riley's arm was draped over Maya's waist and nothing in the world could harm her.
