"Mayaaaa!" Riley's voice stretched through the hallway's of Abigail Adams High School. The bell for lunch had just rung and all the students were racing to the cafeteria; all except Riley who was currently sitting against the lockers, yelling for her best friend. "You do realize we are in a public place?" Maya questioned half-sternly walking towards Riley. Riley just stared at the ground. The feeling of her eyes burning took away the sting that was burning in her heart. Maya stood standing above Riley. A few moments of loud silence passed by. "What's wrong honey?" Maya asked softly. Riley kept her eyes on the ground, "She don't like me." Riley mumbled. Maya plopped down next to her. She reached out for Riley's hand. Maya breathed for moments like these. Riley's hand was her favorite thing to hold. "Who?" Maya whispered, staring straight into Riley's vacant eyes. Riley slowly removed her eyes from the floor and looked into Maya's eyes. "The locker girl. This morning I introduced myself to this girl. She was beautiful. I wanted to be her friend. But she said that she doesn't like me!" Riley explained. Maya's heart dropped. How dare someone hurt HER Riley? Maya was devastated. This was reason enough for Maya to finally come clean. "Riley, baby, look at me." Riley lifter her eyes once again and looked into Maya's. "She might not like you but guess who does?" Maya asked rhetorically but Riley cut her off and answered herself. "You?" The word fell out of Riley's mouth slowly and quietly. Maya smiled and nodded. "I sure do. Forget her okay? She doesn't matter. Riley you mean so much to me. Make that matter." Maya said extending her arms. Riley moved towards her and laid in fron of Maya. Maya's arms wrapped around Riley and she embraced her. Riley was still upset. Maya stroked her hair and hummed softly. Maya was wondering why Riley didn't react negatively but she assumed that Riley just didn't understand that she actually had feelings for her. Maya didn't care though, she had Riley calmed down and happier now; that's all that Maya cared about. Riley had soon fallen asleep in Maya's arms. Maya whispered in Riley's ear, "You mean everything to me." and kissed Riley's forehead gently. A gentle smile grew across Riley's face. Maya saw her smile and her heart grew. Everything was going to be okay.
