"Good morning, mom," my voice was husky. Some people call it the 'morning voice'.
My mom was in the kitchen, cooking some breakfast. She turned to me and smiled with her lovely smile, "Good morning, sweetie,"
I sat down at the kitchen table as she handed me a glass of milk, "You know," she said, "Wouldn't it be cozy if you invited Danielle over? I haven't seen your girlfriend for a while,"
"Mom," I sighed, "Danielle and I broke up,"
"What?" She said, surprised, "When did this happen?"
I looked at her, "We broke up year..." I interrupted myself, "Never mind. It doesn't matter. Just know we're not together anymore,"
"I'm sure it was for the best anyways, honey," she said with a comforting smile.
"Still wondering if it was," I mumbled, running my fingers through my messy hair.

"Okay, open your eyes Dani," I smiled.
It's Danielle's birthday, and I brought her to her favorite store outside of Craydon. I've taken her all the way to the rich neighborhood, Rosendale.
"Bobo," she said, rolling her eyes to me, "Do not tell me you've bought this entire shop just for me,"
"I've got a lot of money, but not that much," I laughed, kissing her forehead, "I want you to fill up this cart until it floods with whatever you want. And it's all on me,"
She turned to face me, placed her hands on each side of my upper arms and pulled me closer to her, "Babe," she whispered, "No amount of money could make me love you even more than I already do. So put down your wallet and lets go to a nice park here in Rosendale and have a picnic,"
I placed my arms around her waist and kissed her, "I love you so much,"
"I know," she giggled before we walked out of the store.

Later that night

I stepped into Smoke's little apartment and threw my bag on his couch before settling down myself.
He walked into the living room, tossing over a bottle of beer. I grabbed it with one hand and opened it with my teeth.
"How did it go with your chick?" Smoke asked, sitting down next to me before turning on the TV.
"Great," I said, taking a sip from my beer, "Man, she didn't want my money or anything. She just wanted to have a picnic at th..."
"End it," Smoke interrupted and received a confused look from me.
"What?" I asked as he sat up straight and faced me.
"Break up with her," he commanded.
I stood up and placed my beer on the table, "Why would you say something like that? I really think me and her is going to last,"
"That's exactly why I'm telling you this, kid. You can't get to close with anyone," He tried to stay calm.
"But why not?" I asked before he quickly stood up, threw his beer to the other side of the room and shouted, "Because she'll end up like Lucky!"
It became silent. Smoke walked over to his window and sat down on the windowsill as he whispered, "They all will,"
I slowly walked over to Smoke and sat down next to him. I glanced over at him, he was looking the other way, clenching his jaw and fists trying not to let out any tears.
"Lucky..." I started before taking a deep breath, "He got taken out by cops. They won't to that to Dani,"
Smoke looked over at me, "The cops won't," his voice was shaking, "But what about the people you owe your money to?"
I sighed, stood up and walked over to the couch to get my backpack before I turned to Smoke again, "I can protect her,"

I left his apartment and headed home. It was cold and snowing a little bit. I spotted my little brother sitting on the fence outside our house.
"You're crazy sitting outside in this cold breeze," I laughed, leaning against the fence next to Leo.
"I like it. And I was waiting for you, Bobo," he smiled, punching my shoulder.
"You could've waited for me inside," I chuckled.
"I know, I just wanted to see you first," he said as a car parked right in front of us.
"Yo, Bobo!" A familiar voice said as I turned around and spotted Bronx. The guy I owe 6 grand.
"Leo, get inside," I whispered, slowly walking towards the car.
"I'm not sure you know how serious I am with my money kid," Bronx said, "So I'll give you an example,"
He pulled out a gun and fired before driving off. I looked down to see where he hit me but had not a scratch on me.
"Leonardo!" My mom screamed as I quickly turned around.
Leo was on the ground with his hands on his stomach breathing heavily. Everything went in slow motion.
"Bobo," Leo shouted.
I ran over to him and got down on my knees next to him with my hands on his cheeks.
"I want you to be the last person I see," he whispered.
"No, no. You're gonna be fine Leo, you're gonna be fine," I said, lifting him up to my lap before noticing that he was no longer breathing.
"Leo, open your eyes," I begged, but nothing happened, "Leo please,"

Next day

"Bobo!" Dani said sounding worried after I opened the door for her.
She threw her arms around me but I quickly pulled her back.
"Dani," I sighed, "I think we should end this,"
"What?" Her eyes widened, "But, you need someone, you need me to be with you,"
"No, I need the opposite. I need you to stay as far away from me as possible," I told her.
"But why?" her eyes got filled with tears.
"You need to be safe, and that's not with me," I said, kissing her forehead.
"But..." she whispered before I interrupted her, "You can go now,"
She just looked at me, tears rolling down her cheeks as she took a few steps back, turned around and slammed the door shut.

*Now*

I was walking past my old school an early afternoon, on my way to meet Smoke to get some more supplies. I heard some guys laughing in a distance as I glanced over. The kid, Ash, was standing in front of three other guys. They didn't look very friendly to him, probably because he was the only white kid among them.
"You're such a liar, you white bitch!" One of the kids shouted, pushing him back as he fell to the ground.
"If you're really friends with Bobo, why don't we ever see you guys together?" Another kid asked while Ash got back up on his feet.
"He's busy, like, all the time, bro!" Ash spat as I cringed for the way he used the word 'bro'.
"One more lie and I'm gonna beat your ass," the third kid said, stepping closer to him.
I placed my thumb and middle finger in my mouth and whistled at them as they turned their heads simultaneous. I walked closer to them, speaking up, "Ash, do these kids bother you?"
Ash turned to look at the boys who looked like they couldn't believe what they're seeing.
"I don't know," Ash smiled as the boys looked at him, "Are you?" he questioned them.
I walked up to them, standing next to Ash. The boys took a couple of steps back as one of them said, "No, we ain't bothering anyone,"
"Good," I smirked, "Now beat it,"
I took one step towards the boys before they ran off. I turned to face Ash, "This is the second time I've saved your ass,"
"See," he smiled, "Only friends do that,"
"Shut up, we're not friends. I'll let you say that you know me, just stay out of trouble. I won't be around all the time to save your bitch ass," I told him, starting to walk away.
"Alright! Thanks, Bobo. See you soon then?" He said from behind me as I shook my head and sighed.
