What is #NativeNations?
#NativeNations and the Native Community was created to help bring together the Native American/First Nations community here on Wattpad, both mixed and full blood. This community was also brought together to help NonNatives on Wattpad create Native American characters with our full support, as well as the ability to ask actual Natives questions on how to create those characters without stereotypes.
What does #NativeNations support?
Our community supports all those who wish to create all, and any kinds of diversity here on Wattpad, though we focus on creating diversity on the Indigenous front.
Why does #NativeNations exist?
This community exists for more than just bringing the community together, though it is a big factor. One of the biggest reasons this campaign exists is for the sole reason that the few stories that do include Indigenous characters include an extreme amount of stereotypes or sexualization. Stories that are written from a historical perspective include a lot of misinformation. This campaign is here to stop and prevent that by answering questions and leading people to good examples of Native American characters on Wattpad.
How can you help/support this campaign?
There are a few ways to help support our community:
1.) Create a story with Native American representation, this character doesn't have to be a main character, or even a protagonist. Use the hashtag #NativeNations and/or PM us about your story. If you're not sure your character is properly representing Native peoples, PM us or comment us the link here to check it out.
2.) If you're a Native author, send us a chapter through PMs about properly representing Native peoples on Wattpad so we can place it in our book, "Writing Native Characters".
Do I have to be full blood to be part of the Native community?
No, this community is about supporting all Native Americans and First Nations people from North, South, and Central American as well as the Caribbean. You do not have to be full blooded to be part of the community, and if you're a curious nonNative, you are just as welcome. This, of course, includes Pacific Islanders, who, despite being nonNative, some of them are still Native to the U.S. and other countries and are just as underrepresented.
So, welcome to our community. ^_^
