Syl looked concerned. "What's going on?"
I took a deep breath that was supposed to be cleansing, but it just got caught in my throat. "My father - he's a bad man. He - he wants to kill all the werewolves," I blurted, my breath catching again. Neither of them looked fazed. I continued. "He thinks we're bad people that are beneath him. He wants to kill us all and he wants me to help him," The last part came out as barely a whisper. I was amazed at how upset saying that made me. Maybe I cared about my dad more than I told myself I did.
"Well, you told him you wouldn't help him, right?" Lena giggled.
"Umm...about that..."
Syl's face darkened. I saw his hand start to move towards his belt where a sword lay in its scabbard. "What. Did. You. Do."
Although I knew it was a question it came out more like a threat. "I did say yes - "
With a roar of rage, Syl lunged at me, sword drawn. He was restrained by Lena who was still smiling, but her smile looked much less happy and much more threatening than before. "I'm sure she had a good reason for saying yes. Don't you Lucia?" Lena said happily, though I sensed an underlying tone of this better be good.
"Yes, I do, and I was going to tell you, but I almost got attacked," I replied, shooting a glance at Syl who was struggling in Lena's arms. That girl was a lot stronger than she looked. They both looked at me expectantly.
"Well, um, I just thought of this plan, like as I was escaping the castle, so it's not all worked out yet, but I was thinking we could have something along the lines of a rebellion?" It came out as more of a question than an answer.
Syl frowned. "Keep talking."
"I was thinking that we could go around looking for other werewolves to recruit so that we could possibly rebel against the king - my father. If we get enough of us, maybe we could actually overthrow him or something," I was hoping against hope that they wouldn't shoot me down and walk away.
"And what, you think they'll just say yes? They're gonna need more of a reason than 'someone's trying to kill us,'" Syl told me, still looking angry, but calm enough that Lena let him go.
I took a shaky breath and tried to gather my thoughts. He was right. I didn't really have any other reason to use other than he wants to kill us. Though I did have one thing that might work...
"Not only does he want to kill us, but he's a powerful man and he wants to kill us. He has soldiers and weapons at his disposal," I said to Syl, trying to look as confident as possible.
"That's nothing I haven't heard before," He replied gruffly, though he seemed to be growing slightly uneasy.
"Yes it is, Syl," It was Lena, her usual giggly tone gone, instead replaced by a kind, soft tone I hadn't thought she was capable of. "And if this is about what I think it's about, then you need to let it go. Lucia isn't Jax."
Syl opened his mouth then closed it again, some kind of struggle clear on his face. "He betrayed me. I trusted him and then I almost died because of him. I can't just let it go!" His voice steadily rose in volume. "You didn't just let it go when Serilda ran away from home after you were Turned!"
Lena paled. "You don't bring up my sister. You never bring up my sister!" She shrieked at him, lunging towards him as though she was going to claw his eyes out. I didn't quite understand what was happening, but I knew that I couldn't let them tear each other to pieces.
I ran forward into the mess of punches and within seconds, I was holding Lena's hands tightly behind her back with Syl at her feet curled up into a fetal position. This did not at all go how I planned.
