I dove under the point of the spear belonging to the guard barreling towards me. He spun around quickly, his spear at the ready. I feinted left to see if he would follow me. He did, of course, the knucklehead. Feinting left again, I went right, swinging my leg around and knocking him off his feet. He started to get up again, but I kicked him square in the face, knocking him out cold.
I turned around and found Lena and Syl taking on the other guy. Syl had apparently chopped his spear clean in half and Lena was using the tip while the guard was jabbing at them with the end. It looked like he was fencing them instead of trying to capture them.
The guard jabbed again at Lena, who responded by parrying the blow. Before anything else could happen, Syl bonked the guard on the head with the flat of his sword. His eyes rolled back into his head as he crumpled to the ground. I met Syl's eyes as the guard fell. His expression was one of total chaos, not anything like the mild, contented Syl I was used to. He looked - well, he looked evil. But as I watched he seemed to calm down. The terrifying light left his eyes, leaving him looking sleep deprived and hollow, the look all three of us were currently wearing. I dropped my eyes down to Lena, who was looking back at me. I realized again with a jolt that they were looking for a leader in me. Again. I'm gonna have to get used to this, I thought with a slight smile.
We stood there for a moment while I assessed our options: 1) find somewhere to lay down for the night and risk being found by the guards, 2) find Lena's family and ask them for help like we planned, even though it was still the middle of the night and I doubted they would appreciate their werewolf daughter and her werewolf friends showing up on their doorstep, or 3) find a place to stay in the city until morning, and then show up and ask Lena's family for help. I decided option 2 was the safest, despite the cons to visiting in the middle of the night.
I turned to Lena. "Lead the way."

Though the sky was pitch black, the city lights made it easy to navigate. We arrived at the house in a matter of minutes. It was a fairly simple house, but the enormity of it made it seem twice as elegant. It rose up four stories and was about as long as two buses. The bricks appeared to be varying shades of red, though that may have been from the different lights all around us casting strange shadows to the spots they weren't lighting. Above us, the black shingled roof slanted up, becoming flat at the top. On second floor, a light was on. There were movements in the shadows. Someone was still awake.
Lena pointed to the roof. "I used to sit up there with my siblings. There's a little hatch at the top. My little brothers would jump and my grandfather would catch them - with magic of course - and make them fly all around. Well, until my dad found out and shut the whole thing down," She had a far away look on her face, as if she was going back to the days where her life didn't involve trying not to get spotted and killed on a daily basis.
"Should we, um, do something?" Syl asked, breaking Lena out of her trance. She shook her head as if to clear it, then nodded.
Not wasting any time, she approached the door, knocked, and stood back. There was no answer, though the shadows on the second floor froze. She knocked again. Still no answer.
Lena sighed. "I didn't want to do this," She muttered as she rang the doorbell. "My brothers aren't fun when they're woken up."Suddenly, almost every light in the house was on. Even from outside we could hear muffled commotion. The door swung open so suddenly that Lena jumped back in surprise. There were six people standing on the other side of the door. One of them was a man with graying hair, who I figured was Lena's father, though he didn't look like a very friendly man right now. His upper lip was curled up into a vicious sneer and he had a very scary looking gun pointed right at us.
"Who are you and what do you want?" He growled. I couldn't see Lena's face, but by the way her shoulders sagged at "who are you," I guessed she had wanted her father to at least sort of recognize her.
The next thing she said clearly came as a shock to the entire family, especially her father. "Hi, Dad."
