I'm so incredibly sorry! I really thought I posted this last weekend, but I guess I didn't. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now. Enjoy your double chapter day!
The next few hours consisted of fire building and hearty eating. It felt good to eat something even though it didn't taste that good (Syl wasn't as good of a cook as he claimed). Lena had joined us for the eating part, but only when asked. She didn't seem to want company, which wasn't something I was particularly familiar with. I spent most of my life wishing for friendly company, even the times I felt that I had hit rock bottom. In fact, those were the times that I wanted someone the most. I guess it was just different for Lena.
I was washing my hands in the stream, thinking of ways we could get Lena's father and grandfather to help us, when Lena plopped down next to me. Silently, of course.
"What's up?" I asked her, looking up at her curiously from where I was lying on my stomach.
"Just thinking of ways out of the woods," She replied, her voice thoughtful.
"Why?" I looked at her quizzically.
"So that the three of us can get to my father and grandfather," She told me matter-of-factly, as though that was the dumbest question ever.
I sat up quickly, spraying water everywhere. "The three of us?" I looked at her, dumbfounded.
Her mouth twitched up into the beginnings of a smile. "What, did you think I wasn't coming?"
"Well, I, um..." Saying it out loud I realized how stupid it sounded. Of course she was coming! This was her family, no matter how dysfunctional.
I must have looked pretty stupid because she burst out laughing. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Syl's head shoot up and a grin spread across his face.
And to have both my friends feeling some sort happy because of a simple look?
It felt good, man. It felt really good.
