Her blanched yellow eyes were fixated on the horizon. The sun was soon going to set. Slowly, the scorching orb of fire descended the atmosphere, painting the sky an array of breathtaking colors, like orange, purple and red. However, River knew that the beauty would not last long as that time of the year has come again.

The 30 days of night.

She will need to say goodbye to the sun, as it will not be seen for another month. Will she last the long weeks of darkness, or will this be her last sunset?

River was a cowardly omega in the eminent pack of the Denali wolves. She portrayed a scrawny portrait of roughly-sewn hide that exhibited a metallic, silver pigment. Her appendages were elongated and lean, creating a wolf of imposing height. Yet the eyes of this candid were most striking. Like a pale ivory, shattered with hues of maize and glistening gold.

Her brother Storm knew what was coming too. His usual torment had deeply scared River's skin. It lost it's majestic silver color, and was now tinted red with blood. Every single step she took was a burden from when he sank his teeth into her hind leg the other day.

His perilous auburn eyes met hers, and just for a second, she held the stare. He snarled, his snout contorting and his keen incisors bared. River pulled back her ears and whimpered,  limping deeper into the woodland where she could be left alone, and forget about the pain she would soon need to endure.

For now.
