Escaping the Shadows

Chapter 5: The Attack

It was midnight, the moon was full and everyone in Mangle and Fang's house was fast asleep. Nightmare was outside, inspecting the area and giving time for his shadow scouts to get into their positions around the house. Ryu was sleeping in Mangle's bed snoring ever so softly. Fox on the other hand was in the nursery by himself. Nightmare looked for his scouts, pure black figures that were in grotesque forms, and saw they were all in position. He gave the signal and the scouts silently entered the house. Fox began to wake up, something felt.....off. As if something that shouldn't be there was in the room with him. Ryu poked his eye open noticing two pairs of glaring green eyes, "Nwightmawe." Mangle slowly woke up, "What was that sweet-" She was cut off when one of the scouts covered her mouth. "Is this the brat?" it asked, looking at Ryu. Ryu giggled, "Aw you don't remember me, Derek?" The second scout glanced to his cohort, "You know him?" Derek had a concerned look, until Ryu's dragon skull appeared, which he then got a panicked look as it shot him.

Fox whimpered, something was wrong he heard Ryu's magic dragon skull go off. He would never do magic this late at night unless it was absolutely necessary. Ryu was glaring at the pile of (black) ashes in disgust. Fang was holding Mangle, "R-Ryu, what was that!?" Ryu just glanced at them, "I'd suggest leaving...fast." Ryu's left eye glowed bright red as the light engulfed Mangle and Fang teleporting them to a secret room he had found which thankfully was hidden from Nightmare's point of view. A scream came from the nursery, it sounded like Fox, "BROTHER HELP ME!" Ryu teleported in there, noticing around ten different pairs of glaring white eyes, "Having a party without me?" Fox whimpered, "They said they wanted to take me. I don't want to leave!" Ryu glared at them, his favorite dragon skulls appearing, "Run. Now." Suddenly a laugh was heard, "That's not going to work on them Ryu." Nightmare appeared from the shadows, "These aren't scouts, they're phantoms." Ryu smirked, "Can the same be said for you?" He shot all of them at the bear who simply raised his hand and absorbed the beam. "Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice," Nightmare chuckled, "let's just say I won't be fooled a second time." Ryu smirked, "Can the same be said to Spring?~" The bear grit his teeth, "Phantoms attack!"

Meanwhile in the shadow realm

Spring was sitting in the waiting room to see doctor Marionette just like he promised Nightmare he would. The doctor said, "Next is...Spring...?" The rabbit walked up to the puppet, "Nightmare said you could keep this a secret." The puppet shrugged, "Why? He your boyfriend?~" Spring blushed, "Just get this over with, I hate doctors." Marionette shrugged again, "Whatever, sit on that bed, I'm going to run some tests." Spring did as he was instructed, then felt his nausea return, "Do you have a trash can?" The puppet snapped its fingers (idk...) and a trash can appeared for the bunny, "Have fun." He then started hurling once again, it was a horrible experience for Spring. He never got sick and when he did it was never THIS bad. After a minute he stopped, "Ok, I'm done." The puppet snapped its fingers again making the trash can disappear and he rolled his chair over to the bunny, "Now. Can I ask a few questions...?" Spring nodded, "Anything to get better." The puppet nodded, "Have you been having weird cravings?" The rabbit got a thoughtful look, "Not really, but now that you mention it I could really go for some ramen." The puppet shook his head for no, "If it's what I think it is, no ramen. Now, have you been having mood swings?" Spring got a confused look, "I don't think so." The puppet sighed, "Be honest. Have you and Nightmare had any fights this week?" The rabbit looked away, "Yeah, but it was more so about the mission tonight." The puppet nodded again, "Ok. Have you been throwing up a lot? Mostly in the morning?" Spring gave a strange look, "How'd you know?" Marionette sighed, "I think I know what the problem is, but just to be sure there are a couple tests I'd like to run."

Spring was extremely nervous, he didn't know why though. The tests were strange too, why the heck did the doctor need a urine and blood sample? Also, why the heck was he rubbing gel on his stomach? Spring decided to ask, "What'cha doing?" "Rubbing jelly on your belly so I can take a sonography." The puppet replied. The rabbit had no clue what that was, "What's that?" The doctor brought over a monitor with some strange device attached to it, "It's going to let me see inside you." The rabbit was freaking out. "Calm down, I'm just gonna put this over your stomach." Spring calmed down, as the doctor put the thing attached to the monitor over his stomach. An image appeared on the monitor, "Alright let's-........Oh my god."

And now back to your regularly scheduled story, that totally sucks.

Fang was extremely anxious, not only did he have no idea where he and Mangle were, but also there were strange noises coming from the ceiling. It sounded like people fighting. Mangle was clinging to her husband, fear coursing through her veins, "What's happening?" "I have no idea," Fang said, patting her back, "but we gotta find a way out of her." Ryu had the oh-so brilliant idea to use his pet, the kraken. Nightmare shot at it with a pure black skull that was just like Ryu's, "This isn't even a challenge." Ryu's kraken merely absorbed it, growling as it grew stronger.The bear smiled evilly, "I'll just have to kick it up a notch." Ryu growled teleporting it away as he teleported himself (and Fox) away to the kitchen, in the secret crawlspace leading to the secret room. "Brother, where are we?" Fox asked, as they crawled further in. Ryu shushed him, "No talking." The orange fox nodded. They stopped at the edge where Ryu pushed Fox down, then jumped down himself. "Do you hear something?" Fang asked, hearing what sounded like something falling. Ryu, deciding to scare his father jumped onto Fang's back and said, "BOO!" Fang screamed and jumped away, trying to shield Mangle, "Get away from us you......Ryu?" Ryu giggled, "Papa is a baby." Fox giggled as well as Fang groaned. Ryu laid down on a mattress he had put there (honestly. That room is pretty big...so much STUFF! It could house ten starving Africans for at least five weeks.), "I'm taking a nap." Mangle said, "But what about those people! And who are they!?" Ryu shrugged, "They can't get in here, because I surrounded the room with Light Magic, and they are shadows." Ryu then turned the light on illuminating the room entirely.

Suddenly, the light started to flicker, causing Fox to whimper, "What's going on brother?" Ryu looked at it, "No clue." The light suddenly went out and there was a scream and the smell of something iron filled the entire room. Ryu looked around and saw Fox whom was shaking so much. "Dangit, I missed." That voice was Nightmare's. Suddenly, a dim light came on in the room and what everyone saw sickened them. It was Nightmare, with his hand jabbed into Mangle's stomach. The vixen was hyperventilating and had a bit of blood coming from her mouth. Ryu glared his eye growing darker red by the second as he teleported Mangle and Fang, to a hospital, right on the desk. The bear smiled and licked a bit of the blood from his claws, "How about I finish you both NOW!" Using magic, he surrounded Ryu in a strange purple mist causing his magic to be cancelled. Ryu was just sitting there, "Oh. Wow. Mist, am I supposed to feel threatened?" Nightmare grinned as the mist started to slowly turn red, "Burn in hell you brat." Ryu was suddenly engulfed in flames and the bear turned to Fox, "Now it's your turn." Fox was clutching his fists, "You hurt my brother, you hurt mommy, I will make you pay!" He suddenly was engulfed in a bright yellow light causing the fire and mist that surrounded Ryu to disappear. Ryu shrugged, "I wouldn't go to Hell even if he killed me. I'm WAYYY too busy. But thank you Fox." Nightmare started to tremble, "T-the light magic." Ryu yawned as he watched Nightmare - the lord of darkness, someone who can literally not feel scared - tremble. Fox raised his hand (paw?) and two bright yellow dragon skulls appeared, "Feel the light of justice!" He fired the beams, but Nightmare teleported out of the way. "Maybe another day." The bear then teleported out of the house and began traveling back to his domain.

Ryu grabbed his brother teleporting to their mother, "Mama?" Fang was sitting by Mangle's bedside and the vixen was sleeping, many layers of bandages around her stomach area. "Maggie," Fang said, holding her paw and crying, "I'm so sorry." Ryu tugged on his father's fur, "Papa?" He looked down and picked up the two kits, "Let's let mommy rest right now ok?" Ryu nodded, "Otay." He walked them out into a waiting room just as a doctor came over, "Are you Fang?" Fang nodded solemnly. The doctor got a sad look, "Well, I regret to inform you, but unfortunately your wife's uterus has been entirely destroyed." Fang went wide eyed, "The baby...?" The doctor looked down, "I'm sorry, it's gone and she won't ever be able to have children." Fang started crying, "R-Ryu...you can fix her uterus...right?" He shook his head, "Magic can't fix what has been lost." Fang nodded leading the two kits out, "Let's go to a hotel, house is probably wrecked." Fox nodded, then said to Ryu, "We have to stop him." Ryu nodded, "Sleep first."
