Escaping the Shadows

Chapter 1: New Mommy and Daddy

Yin and Yang, good and evil, light and shadows, there are many names for it but it is always there, two opposing force. They have, and always will, tried to destroy each other but the truth is that one may not exist without the other. These two forces have agreed to try and remain in balance, but there is a legend in the shadows. This legend tells of how one born of shadows will wield light and destroy them, causing the world to be governed only by the light. They have tested every child of darkness they created, but to no avail, until one day.....

Fox and Ryu, they are your average one year olds, with the exception that they were born in the shadows. They are both fox kits, with Ryu having grey and silver fur and Fox orange. Being a child of shadow, Ryu has superb magical abilities, which he mostly uses to spy and prank unwitting victims. Fox though had not been able to use his magic until....

"Brother," Fox said, getting a strange sensation in his paws, "what are you doing?" The grey fox was spying on people again, this time it was a couple trying to have a child. One was a snow white vixen and the other was a gray wolf. Ryu turned to his brother, "Nothing, just looking for mommy and daddy." This got Fox down, "But they said we don't have a mommy and daddy." Ryu thought back to talking with some of the other shadows, they all said that shadows are made but this confused Ryu because every time he spied on someone, they had a mother and father. "I know, but someone has to be our mommy and daddy." Fox crawled over to his brother to see who was spying on this time, "Are they our parents?" Ryu shrugged, "I don't know." Fox felt a warm feeling inside of him, "I hope they are." The warm feeling kept growing, then suddenly, Fox began to glow bright. This definitely freaked him out, "Brother what's going on!?" Ryu knew what it was, a certain kind of magic that the shadows were looking for. "Fox, calm down before-" He was cut off when suddenly his brother was veiled in a black mist, the shadows. "We have finally found you!" They said, tightening their grip on the kit, "We will NOT let you destroy us!" Fox began to whimper, his whimpers turned to cries when he felt himself being crushed. "Brother, help me!" Fox screamed between cries. Ryu didn't know what to do, even if he was able to save Fox they had nowhere to go. He was going to give up when he once again looked at the couple he was spying on and got an idea. "Don't worry Fox," he said, teleporting to his brother, "we're going to see mommy!" Holding onto his little brother, Ryu teleported them both out of the shadows and to their new home.

Mangle was sad, once again another negative test. The vixen and her husband Fang have been trying for months to get pregnant, but it just wasn't happening. She's always wanted a kit of her own but even with all the times they tried, which was extremely often, they just couldn't do it. 'Maybe this is a sign,' she thought, curling up on the couch, 'maybe I'm not supposed to have kits.' The vixen started sniffling at the thought, then heard her doorbell start to ring. She didn't get up to answer it just wanting whoever it was to go away. It kept persisting though, getting her more and more irritated. 'Can't they take a hint!?' She thought angrily. Eventually she got fed up with the ringing and went to open the door. To her surprise and confusion though, nobody was there. "Hello?" She said out loud, and when she looked down, her heart skipped a beat. There on her doorstep was a basket containing two fox kits with a note attached to it. She took up the note, and it said, 'Please give us a home, the grey kit is Ryu and the orange one is Fox. We're brothers that have nowhere else to go.' Mangle smiled, tears in her eyes, picked up the basket containing the kits and brought them to the living room. Ryu was happy...he found his mommy even Fox was showing joy and he was abused by those retched shadows. Mangle picked the kits out of the basket, "Hello little ones." Fox looked up at her, "Mommy?" Mangle's smile got even bigger and tears of joy flooded her eyes, "Yes, I'm your mommy." Ryu giggled and held his hands up, "Up?" He asked. Mangle couldn't be happier, she picked up the grey fox and gave him a hug. Fox also crawled to the vixen wanting to be held, which she obliged. "Hey Mangle," a voice said from another room, "who was at the door?" Fox looked up at the vixen, "Who's that?" Ryu tilted his head. A gray wolf then walked into the room and saw Mangle holding the two kits, "Um, honey were you not telling me something?" Mangle giggled, "Read the note, honey." Mangle handed Fang the note that was in the basket with the two brothers. Fang read it then looked at Mangle, "Ok, what are we going to do with them?" Fox's stomach then growled, "Mama, I'm hungry." Mangle said, "We don't really have anything...Fang could you go to the store and get baby stuff?" Fang nodded, "Sure, anything else other than food?" Ryu nodded, "Cooking ingredients." Mangle tilted her head, "Huh?" Ryu giggled, "No reason..." Fox then blushed, "Um...diapers please, daddy." Fang replied, "Hope you were at least wearing one." Mangle nodded, "They were." The wolf then went to his car and drove to the store.
