Strong Enough

"No one could miss you more than I do.  I know it was my fault. My fault that you did this. You were the one. You were always there for me. But I couldn't realize that you were the one that needed help. I'm so sorry..." The man trailed off, burying his face into his hands as he  rested his elbows onto his knees.
The light had continued to fade away, leaving him to the darkness- and his demons. Their torment tore at his skin from the inside, their words forcing the tears from his eyes.
"If I had been strong enough, you'd be here by me. You'd be at my side. I'm sorry I never got to say that I loved you. For all that you did for me.  Maybe I'll have the chance now." He picked up the gun that was sat beside him, taking the safety off. Rain fell from the sky, making him glance up. It was as though it was a sign from her.  Like she was crying for him.
"Why? After all that you've done, you're going to leave me? For her... You know I'm always here for you, yet you still try to leave me." Tears filled a woman's eyes as she approached the man. Her hands wrapped around his wrist, pulling the gun away from his head.
"... You don't understand. You're supposed to hate me with what I did to you. You almost died because of me. Just leave, (Y/N). " He wrenched his arm away, making her stumble back.
"Killing yourself won't solve anything. You know that. Think about what she would want you to do. "Once again, she wrapped her hand around his wrist.

First person (reader pov)-

"David. Please." I removed the gun from his hand, burying my head into his chest.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. The last thing I told her was that I hated her..." He sobbed into my hair, his strong arms encasing me. Lightning lit up the sky for a split second, illuminating the gravestone. He was at his mother's grave.
"David, she knows that you don't hate her. She's proud of you, even with the decisions you've made. She loves you, more than I ever could. It's okay." He slowly calmed down, but was now shivering from the rain that continued to pour down.
"I couldn't ever survive without you. Please, don't ever leave me." His eyes met mine, seemingly searching through my soul.
"David. I'll always be here. Don't forget that. Please don't try to do this again..." The irritation from crying was starting to get to him, making him blink multiple times.
"I promise, (Y/N), I'll never leave you so long as you don't leave me." He buried his face into my neck, gripping my waist tighter.
"Come on. We can't be out here all night, we'll both catch a cold." I pulled away from him, holding his hand as we made our way out of the cemetery.
He might have bullied me through our high school years, but after that incident, he was by my side constantly. Especially after his mother passed. Now, there was definitely no way that he'd be parting from my side. Because I had already found the small box containing a ring hidden in his dresser.

A/N- just uploading one for now, sorry for it being short, I've had a bit of writer's block. And also, the song was just something I was listening to, not really that related to the one shot.
