When she finally understood, she was kind of scared of talking to him.
Just the feeling of him not liking her back like that was frightening.
So, she backed a few steps. Didn't talk to him more than when he asked her something, didn't text him after school, didn't follow him home or take him home after school.
He asked her after a while.
'You've been so distant lately. Is something wrong?'
She poked the food that was on her plate, looking at it as if nothing else interested her.
'No. Everything's just... Great.'
He looked at her, confused by her answer.
'Sorry, but you don't look great.'
She hastily stood up, anger boiling up in her in a second.
'Well, maybe I'm not. Maybe there's a reason I'm telling you I'm great when I'm actually not.'
She took her tray, left it and walked away.
