"No I'm not taking you on a walk right now." I say to the dog jumping up on me with her leash in her mouth, almost knocking me over with her massive body. I've had Halley for as long as I can remember. She helps me hunt often, but most importantly, she keeps me company.

"Alright, alright! I'll take you out, but only a short walk." I say, while trying to push her off of me. She barks in triumph and drops the leash in my palm. I tie it around her neck and lead her outside. Halley is an outdoor dog, mainly because I don't let her come inside. I'm to afraid that my father will hurt her somehow.

We walk for about ten minutes, then turn the corner of the ally that we were walking down. My heart stops in my chest when I see a figure sitting a couple yards away from us.

"Hello Katrina. Its been a long time." He says standing. Kyren.

As he comes a little closer to me I see the changes in him. His short blonde hair is bleached from the sun, his blue eyes are faded, his arms are not thin and weak any more, they are tan and buff, and instead of being two inches shorter than me, now he is at least three taller. "What are you doing here Kyren?" I say dryly, trying not to let my shock show in my voice. Halley strains her neck to see who I'm talking to.

"Its good to see you too." He says with a little chuckle. "Come on Kat can't we just talk for a bit?" he says and comes even closer. Kat, that was always his nickname for me when we were younger. Kyren and I were best friends. I would try to come up with a excuse to tell my mother so that I could go and play with him in the woods. But when she died, there was no need, my father didn't care about me so I spent more time with Kyren then I did at home at age 7. Yes, I had a nickname for him too, but I'm not going to give him the satisfaction of hearing that name.

All of a sudden my hold on Halley's leash loosens and she runs around me. She bolts to Kyren, but instead of attacking him like I would have liked, she jumps on him and pins him to the ground, and licks his face. Great job, you stupid dog. "It's good to see you again to Halley." Kyren laughs as he tries to push her off. Yes, they're bust buds, all three of us used to play in the woods together. Kyren and I probably fooling around and Halley standing near by, guarding us. "Halley, come." I say loudly. Her head shoots up and she bounds over to me. "Good girl." I whisper and she proudly stands up straight.

Kyren awkwardly stands and brushes himself off. He comes over to me and I become ridged. I feel his hot breath on my neck as his eyes scan over me. "You've changed a lot Kat." He breaths. I'll say, my once pale soft skin is ruff and tan from all the long hours hunting in the sun, my emerald green eyes have dark circles under them, and my body is now thin from hunger, but instead of being weak, I am strong.

He leans in even more and I can feel his breath on my cold and cracked lips. He stares into my eyes and I want to look away but I cant. His stare holds me in place an his presence brings back memories of my once happy life. "I really did miss you Kat." He whispers and puts one hand on my cheek. My eyes flutter closed and I take in the amazing feeling I get from his touch. But then the heat is replaced by cold and I open my eyes. Kyren takes a step back and when I don't say anything he turns and walks away.

"Ky wait." I call after him. The name that I thought would burn my throat, instead flows off my lips like caramel.

He turns his head to look at me but doesn't turn his body. I don't know what I as planning on saying. I look down instead. He sighs and turns back around, and he leaves.

Pain shoots through my heart as I think of the day he left me the first time.
