The words fight to escape my lips, my tongue holds them back. I get the first three words out but the rest are caught in my throat. "Drake, I will-" I say again. I push the rest out in a burst of air as fast as I can so I don't have time to change my mind. "I will work for the rebellion." Drake's face softens and he grins. "What a wise choice Ms.Sparrow. Now, Isabella will take you to your new quarters and she will escorts you to town so you can grab your things. That includes weapons Katrina. We can use all that we can get our hands on. You are dismissed." He says.
I turn on my heals and walk out of the room. The thought of packing my things from home and living here sends chills through my stiff limbs. My brain is fuzzy as I follow Bella through the maze of tunnels. It seems that we go in the opposite direction from where we came. I can only hope I don't run into those beady eyed people again.
We reach the end of the tunnel that we are walking down, it seems to be a dead end. Why would we come here? "Turn around." Bella says to me with a flat tone. I obey, reluctantly and hear scuffling behind me and wonder what she's doing. "Alright, turn around and come here." she orders. I turn and don't see the dirt wall that was there only seconds before. Now there is a opening above us and a rope ladder hangs from the hole. She is already climbing up, so I follow. When I brake the surface I take a deep breath of the cool fresh air. It floods through my nose and expands my lungs. This is probably my favorite thing in the whole world. A tight sadness expands over me when I realize that when I begin to live in the tunnels I wont be able to feel this. Will they let me hunt? Most likely, Drake said that was one of the reasons he wanted me. Thank god.
We walk the same path that we took on our way here. The thin branches of trees and bushes whip my face and arms as we trudge through this deep tangle of nature. With each step I feel a pull towards my fate. A tug to what my life will be. The brown jacket I wear blocks the bite of the wind, but not the blood chilling eeriness this forest emits at night. I know the stars shine above me but I can't see them through the canopy of dense leaves. My long brown hair flys off my face in the direction of the wind, leaving that part of me ice cold. I look at Bella's feet before me and try to focus on the crunch they make when they hit the blanket of pin needles. A while later I hear an owl not far away from us. I look up in the direction it came from. I cant see the creature but I can still hear it. Bella turns to it also. She sees me glance at her and she gives me a slight glare. What did I ever do to you? Shortly after I realize exactly what I've done. Her father, Drake, practically praised me (after he argued with me) about all of my skills that he admires but he never once gave her a sideways glance. Don't worry, I know the feeling. I say in my head. I think of my own father back home, the thought of him makes me cringe. At least this whole thing will get me away from him.
We reach the end of the woods and walk out into town. Bella takes me to the place where we first met. "Okay Sparrow." she says folding her arms across her chest. "Where to?" she says. I don't answer with words but just begin to walk. I hear her make a huffing noise behind me. It feels good to be leading for once today and smirk to myself.
When me reach my home I stop and tell her to wait here. I creep through the door and I'm greeted with that all to familiar smell of alcohol. I gage and hold my nose with my finger. I walk to my room and immediately grab an old drawstring bag and put only the things I need inside. I take two shirts, two pairs of jeans, one sweatshirt, and one jacket. Then I search for all of my weapons. I find three small knifes, my cross bow, and some arrows. I check behind me to make sure I have everything, and when I know I do I turn and leave for the last time.
I meet Bella outside where she waits impatiently. "Okay" I say. "lets go." She turns, and for the third time today I follow behind her. I hope she doesn't get used to this, me listening to her and following. It is going to be a rude awakening when she soon finds out, I'm not easily tamed.
