Demi’s P.O.V.
“You ready?” I grinned at Amelie, who was propped up on a whole lot of pillows in her hospital bed. She bit her lip and nodded, and I pulled thumbs up at the nurse who was holding the incubator just out the door. She pushed it in and Amelie immediately started crying, she was smiling so wide and crying at the same time, and still somehow managed to look completely beautiful.
“She’s beautiful.” She whispered, reaching out for the incubator.
“Sorry, babe you can’t hold her. She’s too at risk of any diseases.” I sighed and Amelie looked a little disappointed, but then started smiling again.
“It’s ok, seeing her is enough.” She looked up at me with teary eyes and smiled. “Do you have any ideas for names?”
“Well...” I trailed off, I knew exactly what names I liked, but Amelie was the one that had given birth so it should be her decision.
“I like Eleanor?” She suggested, and I smiled.
“That’s cute and you can shorten it to Elli if you want.” I smile, “Middle name has to be Amelie.”
“Really?” She sighed.
“Eleanor Amelie Roberts-Lovato.” I grinned, kissing Amelie’s forehead.
“No, it should be Eleanor Amelie Lovato-Roberts.” She said, “It just sounds smoother.”
“Ok, name agreed.” I smile and look over at little Elli, she looks so small and fragile in the big incubator.
“I start chemo and radiation therapy tomorrow.” Amelie said, abruptly changing the mood.
“I know baby, I’m going to be here with you right up until you go in for the radiation.” I took her hand and held it in mine, letting her know I’m not going anywhere. She didn’t say anything after that, and just looks across at our little Elli, probably torn between dreading the next day and feeling happy about her daughter.
“Sorry ladies, the little one has to go get her oxygen tank changed out.” The same nurse said, re-entering the room.
“Okay, bye Elli.” I smiled and squeezed Amelie’s hand.
“Cute name.” The nurse smiled before wheeling her out.
