I hear my group members' excitement all the way from the hallway and can already picture what's happening. Suwoong and Sungjun are doing something dangerous and/or attention grabbing, meanwhile Dabin is cheering them on from the sidelines and Wonjun is watching in disapproval, wondering why he got stuck having to look after these kids. When I get there it turns out i'm not too far off, thankfully no dangerous stunts are being attempted, but definitely grabbing attention.
"Ready...set..." there's a long pause and the two contestants start to whine for having to wait. "GO!" I watch from the side as the two take Dabin's signal and begin swimming from one end of the pool to the other. Luckily the only other people present are relaxing outside of the water, and far away from us. They want no part of whatever is going on over here and I don't blame them. The two reach the end of the pool now and begin to swim right back. Suwoong reaches the finish line (Dabin) first, just a few seconds ahead.
"aha! I told you hyung, you're getting old!" our youngest teases, Sungjun responds by sticking his tongue out. So mature...
"Oh! Minsu! Come on in!" he seems to have forgotten all about losing now and focuses all his attention on me. I wish he wouldn't do that.
"Mmm, maybe later" I say, waving him off as I settle down in a chair. My nerves and hormones are all out of wack at the moment, the last thing I need is to be in the water near him, where he has easy access to teasing me, something else I wish he wouldn't do. If he just didn't pay attention to me at all, that would be great. In fact, that would make things so much easier.
"Well why don't we go get something to eat while Minsu decides if he wants to get in or not, I'm hungry" Dabin suggests, pretending like they'd be doing me a favor, but I know what the intention is. As I imagined, the other two find an excuse to tag along, leaving Sungjun and I alone...again. They couldn't be any more obvious even if they tried. A few seconds pass by and I can feel my heart starting to race again, just like it happens every time I'm alone with him, but lately it's been beating faster and faster each time. He swims to the edge of the pool closest to my seat and smiles up at me.
Please don't smile like that...
"have you decided yet?" he asks expectantly. I shake my head.
"The water looks cold"
"It's not! It's really nice"
I narrow my eyes slightly. "Why don't I believe you?"
"Why don't you believe me?" he repeats, pretending to be hurt. "I'll prove it" he states firmly! My first instinct is to shield my face, expecting him to splash me from where he's standing, but instead i hear the swishing of water and look up to see him getting out of the pool. Not entirely sure what he's planning, I sit frozen for several seconds, until he starts walking towards me with his arms open wide.
"OOOh no you don't!" I quickly get to my feet and take a few steps back, afraid that he might think of tossing me into the deep end.
"What, I just want to hug you!" well that's not any better. I would actually rather be thrown into the deep end than be hugged by him right now. But he continues to move towards me while I move away, making sure not to embarrass myself by tripping on something and falling on my ass.
"I don't like hugs!" I protest weakly and outstretch my arms in front of me as if they protected me, but he doesn't give up.
"Tough!" with that he suddenly starts chasing after me. Forgetting the dangers of running close to a pool, I immediately run away as if my life depended on it. At the moment I'm more concerned about getting caught than the possibility of falling in.
