The year takes place in 1939 in Pennsylvania. A woman by the name of Maggie Anderson built the Orphanage for the children who was born with out a Mother. Maggie started to hire women to take care of the children. Maggie hired a nice caring old lady by the name of Alice Homes. Alice is an old lady who cares for the children. Then Maggie hired a lovely young woman by the name of Linda Martinez. Linda is happy to work in the Orphanage because she loves children.
The kids started to be loud and bratty to Maggie. Maggie didn't like the kids new behavior, so she punished them with a whip. The kids were crying because they were beaten by Maggie, the kids ran to Linda for love and support. The next day, Alice stepped outside from the Orphanage to get some fresh air. Alice saw a little Boy crying on the steps, Alice walked towards the boy, Alice asked the boy "why are you crying little boy? What's your Name? The boy replied "My name is Oliver Thredson, I'm crying because i don't have a Mother." Alice took Oliver inside the Orphanage and took care of him, like he was her own.
Maggie hired a janitor by the name of Allen Peterson. Allen Peterson was a convicted Child Molester back in 1920, now Allen is working in the Orphanage for he can start all over. Oliver was wondering around the Orphanage when he saw a Little girl sitting at corner all alone. Oliver walked towards the girl and gave her a piece of candy. Oliver asked the girl about her name? the little girl's name is pepper. Maggie grabbed Oliver and told him to stay away from the Freak. Alice told Maggie to be a little nicer to Oliver. Maggie replied "those kids needs more discipline, they should be punished."
Later in the Orphanage, Maggie told the kids to go to sleep because it's their bedtime, All the kids went to sleep. Maggie went inside her bedroom, Maggie was looking at her reflection from the mirror talking to her self. She said "he was supposed to marry me, I was supposed to be happy." Maggie went to her bed and fill asleep. The end
