Chapter 7 The Matchmaker

Jack and I both walk around casually, trying to find Muyskerm. I spot Minion and call out to him, "Yo! Do you happen to know where Muyskerm is?" I ask. Minion stares at me for a moment then nods, "Yeah, he and Iplier went on a scavenger hunt." I silently groan, "Do you know when they will return?" He shakes his head. I see Jack roll his eyes out of frustration and turn to walk away. I follow him.
"Welp. Guess since he is away, we can practice a way of asking him for permission." I suggest. Jack nods a little bummed, "Alright. I'll be Muyskerm, mostly because I most likely know what he will say, and you will be me." I nod and open my mouth, "Hey Muyskerm?" I start off, "What's up Jack?" He asks all peppy, "I have a question to ask." He nods, "Okay?" I take a deep breath, "Would it be okay, if you gave me the opportunity to date Iplier?" I ask staring him straight in the eyes. Jack seemed to contemplate this question, "Aw, Jack. You know the rules though. Dating someone on the same team is highly dangerous." I stopped him, "True, but you want your team prosper, correct?" Jack slowly nods, "Then why not help me prosper by allowing me to ask Iplier out?" Jack gives me a stern look and looks around the room, "Sorry Jack. But that's a no go. Rules are rules and if we ever get into combat, Iplier would most likely risk his life to save you." I furrow my brows, "Jack... You really have the mentality of Muyskerm saying no..." Jack nods, "I'm just sure he will disagree," "Well... Let's switch roles. I'll be Muyskerm and you'll be you." Jack bit his lip and nods, "Okay, you start." "Uhh... Hey Muy..." I smile, "Hey Jack, what's up?" Jack rubs the back if his neck, "I was... Well I was wondering if you could... Can I ask Ma... Iplier out?" He asks. I stop and think for a moment, "I dunno Jack. You know the rules." Jack looks down and sighs, "You're right... Sorry I asked." He turns around and I groan. I grab his shoulder, "Okay listen. Do you really love Iplier?" I ask. He nods slowly, "Then why in the hell would Muy say no?" He looks at the ground, "For the safety of the team." I turn him around to face me and make him look me in the eyes, "Look. If you ask me, Muy is a control freak and needs to lighten up a little. Maybe if you actually gain the confidence, then he will allow you to date Iplier." I say with a smile. Jack stares at my face, examining probably the torn up face I have and he sighs heavily, "You promise that I might have a chance?" I nod happily, and that's when we hear a door open and footsteps walk inside.
Voices could be heard and I smile at Jack. He seems a little scared, but I punch his arm to try and cheer him up. We walk out of the room and into the main room, Iplier and Muy looked worn down, like they were being chased. "Everything okay?" Jack asks, his voice full of concern. Muy looks at both of us and nods, "Yeah, just got into a little trouble with the peacekeepers." Jack immediately runs towards them, checking them over, "You're okay right? They didn't shoot, hit, or find you, did they?" Iplier smiles and Muy laughs, "Ah... You're kindness is refreshing Jack. No, they didn't spot us exactly. We lost them at the freeway." "Freeway?" I questioned, "That's all the way on the other side of town." Jack looks at them both with concern, "You guys could've been shot and bleeding, with no way home, and we couldn't rescue you, because you would've been too far away!" Muy rolls his eyes, "Jack listen. We are fine, we were spotted and chased a little. Nothing to worry about." I looked down at the floor, then back up with a questioning expression on my face, "Okay... So you said that you and Iplier 'lost' them at the freeway. Does that mean you went beyond the freeway?" Again Jack looks at them with full concern. Muy glares at me, "Listen here mister geography," He stood up and started walking towards me, "I don't know how you know so much about this town, but you need to shut your mouth, before I go ahead and shut it for you." Minion walks into the room and when he sees what is about to happen and immediately turns around and walks out. "Muy, stop. He's concerned about you as much as I am." Jack stands up for me. I smile, "Yeah. I just want to know what you were doing out in the 'free will' county." Muyskerm's eyes widen and his glare deepens, "Shut the fuck up. We were there for reasons you don't need to be concerned about." Jack cocked his head a little, "What's the 'free will' county?" I smile and step around Muy with ease, "Oh? You don't know?" Muy tries to grab me, but I slip away and walk towards Jack, "It's the border of this town that contains all the-" Muy covers my mouth and holds me captive with his other arm. Jack looks at both of us confused, "All the what?" Iplier stands, "It contains all the extremely lost people. Some are crazy and some are dangerous." Muy gives him a look I am unable to identify and Jack looks at him confused, "Crazy? As in... The people who were captives, who lost someone important, or who couldn't take it anymore?" Iplier hesitated to nod.
Jack looks around rapidly, he skims the faces of Iplier, me and Muy. "You... Could've died..." He says in a small voice. Muy releases me and I stand there with a smug look plastered on my face, "Hey Jack? Wasn't there something you wanted to ask Muyskerm?" Jack looks up at me and I give him a nod of approval. Muy gives a strange look, then directs his attention towards Jack. "Now's the perfect time." I tell him. Jack looks at his thumbs that were unconsciously twiddling and opens his mouth, "Muy... I... wantyourpermissiontoaskoutIplierplease." He jumbled all his words together. We all give him a confused look, "What?" Muy asks taking a few steps closer. Jack takes a deep breath and repeats his words, "I... want your permission to ask out Iplier... Please?" The tomato hair person standing behind him flinches and his eyes widen. Jack looks at my feet with wide freaked out eyes and clenches his hands together. I look at the purple man and he had no expression on his face. Everyone's faces in the room was currently holding different expressions. I was unsure of my own expression, but I was attempting to hold a straight face.
Muy was the first one to speak, "Okay... Listen, Jack." He started. I saw Jack's expression shift a little, "You know the rules." Jack nodded, "I just can't allow it." I glanced at Iplier who was silently staring at his two friends. I glanced at Jack, who was hanging his head low, nodding slightly. Muy patted Jack's shoulder and walked away. No one said anything.
Jack just started to slowly walk away. Iplier held out a hand to stop him, but hesitated, and just let him walk away. I gave Iplier a small sympathetic look and he just shrugged. Minion walked into the room and looked from me to Iplier, "So, I'm guessing Muy said no?" I raised an eyebrow, confused on how he knew what we were talking about, "Uh, yeah. He did." Minion nodded and sighed, "Sucks, Mark and Jack would've made a great couple." He smiled. Mark's head snapped up suddenly and he shot daggers at Minion. Minion brought his eyebrows together, confused about Mark's reaction, "What?" He asks, clearly unaware of what he did.
It all turned into a sudden realization and Minion's attention turned to me, "You didn't hear me say that." He commanded. I smirked a little, amused at his mess up, "Hear what?" I turned to Mark, "Don't worry tomato paste, Muy will come around." Mark nodded, still keeping his attention on Minion. I shrugged and grabbed my bag, ready to head for the door. "Where are you going?" Mark asked, "Isn't it obvious? I'm leaving. I've over stayed my welcome." Nobody stopped me as I headed out the door, ready to embark on another adventure.
Of course I would have an issue though. For nothing in my life so far has gone right. I shake my head and skip a little, before taking off in a random direction, away from everyone.
