I woke up, "Geez... How long have I been asleep?" I asked out loud, "Long enough." I heard Wildcat say. I sat up quickly and looked at the sitting, even more blurry, figure on a chair. "Oh hey..." I said smiling.
"So... Glasses?" He questioned. I kept my smile, "Yeah... Sorta lost them before I met Delirious." I saw Wildcat's head nod. "Alright." He stood and held out his hand, "You need glasses to see right? Moo said it also hurts your head, so let's go find some, or make some. Whatever comes first." I nod and grab his hand, "This is one way to get me to trust you. As this is just me and you scavenging." I could tell he was smirking.
We walk out of the room Moo brought me into the night before, "Where's Moo?" I asked, "Who knows. He wanders around the house sometimes for no reason." I nodded. We walked to the ladder that brought me down here and Wildcat started to climb. I followed closely behind his feet, keeping an eye on the bottom of the soles of his shoes.
We got to the top and out the fridge we went.
"Okay. Stay close. Don't want any peacekeepers killin' ya." Wildcat said. "Don't worry. If me and Delirious can run away without a scratch, I can do it again." Wildcat didn't answer and walked out of the house, of which the base was hidden.
"Okay. There is a old glasses store about 12 blocks away, due West. We got... I'd say... 2 hours before the peacekeepers come around." I nod and follow as he walks towards in the direction of the store.
"What if they don't have what I need?" I ask. Wildcat just glances back at me, "Then we will improvise." I nod and quietly follow him.
----
From what I could tell, it took an hour to travel 12 blocks. Mostly because we were using alternate routes to stay out of the open for so long. We walked into the broken up building, it was literally in half. "Better not stay in here too long." Wildcat said crunching through the broken stone. I nod and start trying to look for salvagable glass.
It took about half an hour for us to find good enough material for someone at the base to fix up. We put it in my backpack and we start to walk out.
"Okay. We really need to stay out of the open if we don't want to be caught. They are on patrol." I nod and we take a turn into an alley
About 6 blocks into out journey, we were blocked off by a high fence and a tall building. We were forced into the opening for 2 blocks. "Stay quiet and vigilent." I nod.
After 5 minutes there was the sound of a car coming our way. Without thinking twice, I grabbed Wildcat's backpack and pulled him into the nearest alley and we both hid in the darkest place we could find and wait.
Nothing came. "Ugh... Really Mini? You hide me away from nothing?" I look down in apology. "Hey... You haven't spoken since we left... What's up?" "Let's not talk now. And I swear I heard a car coming." I saw Wildcat's head shake and he walked out of the alley. I followed a little angry he didn't believe me.
1 block later, we were silently walking. I was at least 5 feet behind him. I again, heard the car and grabbed his backpack to pull him into another nearby alley. Again we hid.
Nothing came.
"Again? Mini... Maybe your ears are playing tricks on you. You are really annoying me more than gaining my trust." He said. Wildcat walked out of the alley and continued walking. This time instead of being angry, I was a little sad. I got up and was reluctant to follow, but I did anyway. 'I probably could just stay here. I bet you he would be happy to get rid of me...' I shook the thoughts out of my head, 'Stop Mini. You told yourself not to get depressed during this time.' I sighed.
Again. The car. This time instead of dragging Wildcat into an alley, I just continued walking behind him. The car sound continued. I looked at Wildcat and he didn't seem to notice them, 'Maybe he's right. It's probably in my head.' We walked further and further and the car sounds continued.
"Come on Mini. We made it to the alley point." He said pulling me, this time, into an alley. '4 more blocks.' I thought, 'This trip... Seemed awfully easy.' Before traveling further into the alley, I decided to turn around, the car sounds stopped.
I stared at the entrance of the alley. It was silent. I turned around again and heard the car. I turned and they stopped. I did it a couple more times until I fully stopped. I stared at the alley entrance in horror.
There was someone's sillouhette standing there staring right at the path me and Wildcat were taking.
My heart started to speed up. The sillouhette seemed to notice me and looked like it was aiming a gun at me. I was about to shout out to Wildcat. But a gunshot was heard instead.
I felt a sting in my shoulder. The sillouhette reloaded and aimed again.
I tried to move, but my mind was telling me to take the next shot.
I stood still. I heard Wildcat yell. I didn't realize he traveled so far away.
I got ready for the next shot.
A gunshot was heard.
Another sting was felt, in my stomach.
I doubled over in pain and fell on my hands and knees. I looked up and saw the sillouhette disappear. My vision got more blurry and I fell.
I felt Wildcat turn me over. He didn't do anything. I just felt his stare. "Mini. Get up." He said.
I opened my eyes and I didn't feel any pain, "What?" I fully stood up and and looked at my shoulder, no blood. I looked at my stomach, no blood. "Uhh... But I was... And there was..." I looked at the entrance. "Look Mini. I don't know what happened, but we need to head back. Scotty is probably angry that we didn't eat breakfast." I nod and still stand absolutely confused of what just happened.
I tried to ignore it and followed Wildcat back to the base.
