"Rose. Rose! Please wake up, we don't have much time! Rose!"

My eyelids fluttered open to see Deaton and Derek kneeled over me.
"What?" I moaned, feeling as if I'd just been rudely awoken from a deep sleep. The sharp pain in my arm when I went to move it reminded me that that wasn't the case.
"Hey, be grateful he didn't wake you up with a dog whistle. Do you know how degrading that is?" Derek scowled. Deaton smirked at me and I smiled lightly. Despite the night's traumatic events, he somehow always managed to make me smile.

I tried to stand but my balance was lost almost immediately. The two men grabbed a shoulder each and helped to steady me.
"You're going to be weak for several hours," Deaton explained.
"What happened?" I asked, hazily looking around the room that was almost black from dirt and ashes. "Where are we?"
"My family's old home," Derek said.
"What? I thought it burnt down,"
"This is all that's left," I looked at him apologetically, seeing the sadness in his eyes as he was reminded of that fateful night.
"Am I-" Derek started, turning to Deaton.
"Don't worry, you're still an alpha. But, as usual, not a very competent one,"
"Where is he?" He growled.
"I wish I could tell you,"
"Who? Who are you talking about?" They continued to ignore me and carry on their previous conversation.
"Then how about you tell me what you're doing here,"
"That's not important. What matters is that a man has just managed to resurrect himself from the dead. That doesn't just happen,"
"Using wolfsbane," I muttered, kneeling down and plucking an indigo flower from in between the floorboards. "But I thought you said that was nearly impossible?"
"Nearly. Not completely,"
"Why are you helping me?" Derek demanded.
"Helping your family, actually," Deaton said with a calm voice. "They used to be a pretty important part of my life. Helping you was a promise I made to your mother,"
"You're the one my sister talked about. She said you're a kind of adviser,"
"She was right, and I have some advice that you need to listen to very closely right now. What Peter managed to do doesn't come without a price. He'll be physically weak so he'll have to rely on the strength of his intelligence. His cunning. He's going to come at you, Derek. He'll try to twist his way inside your head, preying on your insecurities. He'll tell you he's the only way you can stop Gerard. Do not trust him,"
"I don't trust anyone," Well, that was a stab to the heart. It wasn't too bad, though. I was too preoccupied trying to figure out who Peter was as I knew they were too involved in their conversation to tell me.
"I know. If you did, you might be the alpha you like to think you are," Ouch. That one clearly stung for Derek, who had hurt and embarrassment written across his face. "Unfortunately, the few people you should trust don't trust you at all," Deaton shot me a glance. He was referring to us; Scott's 'pack', if you will. In that moment, I realised he was right. I may have had the biggest schoolgirl crush of my life on Derek, but if push came to shove I wouldn't rely on him for anything.
