What alerted the dwellers of the castle of the disaster that night was not the boy's screams, or the wildly lapping flames that were visible through the windows. It was the smoke. The pitch black, all-consuming, denser than metal, acrid smoke that wafted out of the abandoned classroom at the end of the remotest hallway of the school. A carefully placed silencing charm around the corridor and a disillusionment one on the windows ensured that help would arrive only when 'twas but too late. By the time the prefect on duty became aware of the student locked inside, the poor soul had already died.

This ensued a flurry of movements all the way from the Hogwarts Castle in the North of Britain to the tip of River Thames. Teacher ran in and out of corridors trying to contain the damage, fruitlessly. In the dark of the night no one noticed the dark owl taking flight towards the village of Hogsmeade. A lone traveler sat, obscured by all peering eyes in the back of Hog's Head. The pecking of an owl by the window drew his attention and he was up and out in a flash. the letter held only two words but the significant gleam on the man's face and the glint of satisfaction in his eyes told legions about his suppressed happiness. In a gust of wind he apparated to a dilapidated flat in East London where he promptly knocked on the door, firm and sonorous.

"Its done." he repeated the contents of the letter to the man sitting on the high backed chair before the hearth once he was allowed inside. The dark haired man smiled wide. His striking blue eyes widened in joy and he let out a sinister cackle that left the messenger apprehensive.

"Very well." he replied in a languid manner. his voice dripped with honey and if you listened closely enough and paid extra attention you could hear the ingrained malice and malevolence.

Back in the castle the young student was being examined by the school nurse. The news of the fire had spread far and wide. all students were awake and huddled in their common rooms to await the verdict. the boy was pronounced dead and arrangements were made to deliver his body to his next of kin. Richard Heron was a renowned student among his fellows and the teachers. Aside being a promising student he was also a courageous friend. he would be remembered by all.
