12.

After the first few weeks at school, I finally began to see the impossible amount of workload that needed to be done. Things started to get exhausting and difficult with the amounts of assignments and tests we had. The English system was very different from the American one, though I still hasn't determined which one I liked the best.

''Ally, I signed up for the school newspaper.'' Carmen announced when I was sorting out my school folder, sitting in one of the spare benches in the hallway. Daniel had offered to help me with things, but instead he was just eating a huge bar of chocolate and reading his beloved comic again.

Carmen came to us with Lee, ''Lee? Aren't you also part of the team?'' I asked when I saw him.

It was Carmen who answered for him, ''He is the one who convinced me to join.''

I noticed Daniel looking at them with distaste, he was no longer interested in his comic, ''Yeah? Since when did you become a journalist?'' His voice was dripped in saltiness.

She ignored him, ''Lee was also part of our newsletter back in eleventh grade, now he's part of the writers' team.''

''What's your position?'' I asked Carmen who looked pretty excited about this,

''She's our photographer and will help us with media coordination. I didn't know she was good at tech stuff.''

''It's Flynn's influence, he's a pro when it comes to these things. I learned a bit from him.'' Flynn had just talked to me yesterday over phone. After our meeting at the café, we have remained in contact, but Carmen didn't know that. I knew she would get upset if she knew she was the topic of ninety percent of our discussions.

''Ally, why don't you join the club as well?'' Lee offered with a smile, ''it will be fun. You can do book reviews for us.' Sure I loved reading, but writing was not my forte.

''She's already in another club.'' Daniel basically snarled at him,

''Oh yeah! I remember Lillian telling me something about the drama club.'' He said,

''I am not part of that.'' I had intended to be, in fact it was my first option but thanks to Carmen and her ramblings I had changed my mind,

''Aiden Sullivan is in drama club, apparently he already scored a role in this year's annual play,'' Carmen told him, ''I told Ally not to join that club or else that's guy is going to bother her forever.''

Lee made a face, ''Carmen, shouldn't you let her decide? I don't like the idea of Ally changing her mind just because of one person.''

Daniel closed his comic, ''Hey! It's not like Ally is a child. Carmen was just looking out for her. And don't act like you don't know what kind of person Sullivan is.'' We all looked at Daniel with surprise, I exchanged a look with Lee,

''Chill man,'' Lee told him, ''I was just saying.'' Daniel looked flustered,

''That guy is really bothersome, he's in my English lit class as well. He keeps acting clingy and weird.'' I shuddered remembering the smile Aiden had given me in the morning. Hayley, his girlfriend hadn't fail to notice.

''I joined Arts and Culture,'' I told them, ''in fact we are holding out our first meeting today.''

Carmen made a face, ''Never heard of it before, is it a new thing or what?'' I shrugged, I wasn't keenly interested in club activities. Mom had suggested me to join one since it will look good on my college applications.

''Carmen, come with me I need to show you the club room and where we work.'' Lee said, tugging at her sleeve. Carmen looked elated,

''I'll see you later,'' she said to me and then turned to Daniel and spoke in a irritated voice, ''and don't eat too much sugar, you'll die.''
