-Cams POV
-Picture of Cams Dad

We were on the road to New York and I was excited, I wanted to get there right away. We were on our way to New York for 3 years filled with hunting, fishing, surviving and woods. My dad obviously knew my excitement.

After we got unpacked into our cabin I instantly grabbed my rifle. "Can we get an early start?" I asked walking into my dad's room, he smirked and grabbed his rifle. "Why the heck not?" We laughed and rushed out of our cabin, we suddenly found a deer. "Dibs." He whispered before I could, I fake pouted and he stuck his tongue out at me. "Not if I shoot it first." I said and quickly aimed, before he could get his aim steady I pulled the trigger. Right between the eyes. "Dang it." He murmured. "I'm da true shooter." I said walking to it to claim my prize.

-1 year later

"God, c'mon trout, gimme something to catch." I whined, my dad chuckled next to me. "You love to fish yet your not good." He said, I shrugged. We heard some leaves crush so we turned. "Deer?" I asked, he shrugged and got out his rifle, I had my bow with me so I steadied an arrow. We walked into the trees trying to find the source of the noise. "There." My dad whispered and crouched, I did the same next to him and pointed my arrow. "Dad, that's not an animal." I said pulling away from my bow, he aimed his rifle, whatever it was started growling. "I've never thought this would happen." He murmured, I turned to him. "What? Thought what would happen?" I got scared, he pulled away from his aim. "Zombies." He simply said, I froze, I honestly thought it would happen but it's ruining our trip. "We have to kill the brain right?" I stated, he nodded and we walked up to it slowly, it turned to us and growled. "Dad." I said aiming my bow. "The head, aim for the head always." I aimed for the head and let the arrow fly, it hit the creature head first. As it's body fell to the ground I heard more snarls, I ripped the arrow from it's skull and put it back in aim. "Back to the cabin." My dad whispered, we ran fast but quietly through the woods to the cabin. Once we got there zombies had already stood before it. "You get food, water, meds and important stuff for surviving. Get that, pack it up and get to the truck." He whispered, I nodded and gave him a quick hug. He ran to the zombies knife in hand, I ran past them and pushed open the door. I grabbed a duffle bag and put handguns, amo, food, water, compass, maps, battery's, radios, meds and some more knifes in it. I zipped it up and slung it over my shoulder, I had no time to grab my rifle really because I forgot it. I busted out the door to see my dad struggling to get a zombie off him, I pulled back an arrow and shot. Headshot. It fell to the ground and I tossed my dad the bag, he smirked and we rushed to the truck. Full tank, great. "Cam, let's head to Kentucky. And after that, I'm pretty sure the lab in Cali will have something to help." I nodded, he had helped me study about the CDC in Cali for a history project. As we drove off I looked past the zombies, people and buildings, who knew New York was bad luck.

-Few months in

Made it to Kentucky a couple days ago, my dad was out on a run and I was cleaning my arrows and waxing the string on my bow. The door busted open, I looked to see my dad looking weak with a bloody shoulder. "Dad?" He breathed heavily and shut the door, he fell to the ground and I rushed to his side. "C-Cam... I'm-- I'm bit." He coughed out, I had tears swelling up in my eyes, he managed to chuckle. "D-Don't cry, your m-mother n-never li-liked it wh-when y-ou did." I held the tears back and grabbed his hand in mine. "Dad, you'll be fine, right? You'll be fine." He gave another weak chuckle. "C-Cam, pr-promise me, y-you'll n-ne-never cr-cry. A-and p-pike m-me." I was holding my tears back but I knew the dam was going to break. I rested my forehead on the middle of his chest. "P-please, a-a-and ta-take my r-rifle." The rifle had mine and his name on it written on a piece of duck tape. He slowly closed his eyes, I tried to shake him awake. "Dad! Dad please!" Not now, I didn't want him to leave now. But, I made a promise. He shot up and pinned me against the wall, his eyes pure white. I held him back, the tears on the verge of falling. "Your not my dad." I murmured. "Your a freaking Z." I stabbed him in the side of the head, he stood still, blood trickling and dripping to the floor. "Love you dad." I murmured and pushed the Z away, I saw his rifle against the wall by the door. I grabbed the duffle bag and then the rifle, I looked back at the dead Z. "I hope you know, I'll never cry. You told me what mom always wanted me to be like. To never cry, to never be scared, to be a savior." I walked out of the home and didn't look back, no matter how badly I wanted to go in there and just be by my dad. He was dead, and when I didn't want him to go, that wasn't near who he was. I started the truck and sped off. "Cam, let's head to Kentucky. And after that, I'm pretty sure that lab in Cali will have something to help." His voice rang in my head, 15 was a hard age to see your dad die in front of you. His request for me to be like my mom wanted, so, I was going to keep my promises.
