"Hey Ox!" Said a high spirited voice. "Come play with us!" Us meaning friends. And friends meaning something that I had often lacked as a child. The joyous screams neared and stopped, all positioning themselves as they were looking down. "Ox, what's is the reason of your somber expression?" Were they speaking to me? Possibly. It was hard to tell. The voices who introduced themselves as 'children' were strange. They were all small and had....had no faces.

GASP!

Oxynoiri had awaken. Again. Surrounded by sleek materials and dwelling in a room made of only reflective black walls. Ox did not feel at ease. Her bed was narrow and only used for "operations." The only other person in the room was a frustrated woman, in a lab coat and thick glasses. "I don't understand, what is it you are doing wrong?"

"I apologize for my lack of progress."

The woman waved Oxynoiri's apology off like a bad smell. "No need child no need to apologize. Now, let's see those ears." Oxynoiri sat up on the too-narrow bed and moved with anticipation. Today was the day the Healers were to check her ears. For they were the thing stopping her from going into the water.

And other things.

"Ah yes let's see..." The woman in the lab coat rolled up her sleeves and instead of reaching to the sides of Ox's hair she moved directly to the top, revealing a pair of wolf ears.

"Does this mean I'll be able to go swimming?"

"Hush now, Doctor Isabella is busy."

Doctor Isabella snapped at Ox's ears and made them flitter and stand up straight. "Your nerves seem to be right," the doctor murmured to herself. Ox wasn't paying attention, to the far right she heard a scratching on the door. Doctor Isabella shuffled around her, gathering tools not showing any signs of hearing the constant clawing at the door.

Oxynoiri wanted to she what it was.

Her sister, Magnolia, once tried showing her how to open a door without touching the door handle. It was something she learned during her time in school. But at that time Ox was only paying attention because she had just walked in on a part of Star Wars the staff would watch in the kitchen.

"Hey, Doctor Izzy?"

"Doctor Isabella."

"Right, I think what you're looking for is all the way over there, In that little corner." Ox pointed to the other side of the room. Isabella shrugged but made her way to the spot Ox suggested, and started searching again.

While this was happening Oxynoiri reached her hand out to the door, closed her eyes, and waited.

.......

It didn't work.

By this time Ox was frantic. Looking back and forth between her healer and the door, coming to the conclusion that indeed: curiosity killed the cat.

It was a good thing she came with dog ears.
