Dinner seemed to drag on for days tonight. At least for me... I couldn't get him out of my head... Was it even a him ? I mean, they had the build of a man and seemed too tall to be a woman. But then again-
I was pulled out of my thoughts by my mother's soft and concerned voice. " Honey? Are you alright ? " She asked, eyeing me from the other side of the table.
" I -... " I'd been caught off guard.
" Yeah, of course. I'm fine. " I lied and looked down at my basically full plate of food, absently picking at it as my mind wandered once again.Apparently my mother had been attempting further conversation with me because the next thing I know, her fork was clattering to the floor as she pushed her chair back, coming over to me and grabbing my face in her gentle hands. " What happened ? "
" What are you- "
" You heard me. What. Happened ? You never act like this. "
" I'm fine... " I lied again, the fear in my eyes clear as day. I was always terrible at these kind of things. I looked down, away from her so it would just make it easier, for me at least.
" M,.. " She began, a hint of hurt had floated to the surface in her tone at this point. " You can tell me everything... You know that right ? "
I was silent, nodding my head after a long moment. " Yes... "
My mom placed a gentle hand on my cheek, causing me to look up at her. " Then tell me what happened to you. "
It took all of me to not give in, to not vent to the one person that had always been in my life. The one person who loved me enough to never leave me behind, to pick me up every time I fall and - ......
But maybe that's the thing.... We've been through a lot of sh*t but we've been through it together. She's always helped me get back on my feet, but who was ever there for her ? My mother was so busy trying to protect my poor, fragile and weak mind that she herself never had time to deal with her own problems. That's why she cries every night when she thinks she's alone... That's why she never leaves the house for a fear she might see someone she knows... This was all my fault...
" No... " I stood up, my chair scraping along the hard wood floor as I backed away from her.
" M, " My mother began in a soft tone but I cut her off.
" No! " I screamed, raising my voice for the first time. She flinched and looked down, growing silent. I immediately regretted yelling at her, she doesn't deserve things like that. I sighed, opening my mouth to say something but was interrupted by a loud, annoying series of honks coming from the front yard.
We both jumped and looked over at the door. I stayed that way for a moment, merely staring at nothing before looking back at her to find she was already staring at me, a sad look in her eyes. I swallowed, looking down for what seemed like forever before finally taking a step towards the door, then another, and another, eventually running out of the front door and not bothering to close it behind me as I bolted to the car.
" Drive. " I said as I got in and when we didn't move, I looked over at the drivers side to see my best friend sitting there. " What the f*ck are you doing ?! " I screamed as he took off. " You can't drive ! "
" Who says that ? " he looked over and grinned at me.
" The fact that your fifteen and there is this thing called a law says that. "
" No one has to know that now do they ? " he laughed. " Calm down man, I won't crash. " Bane said as he drove the both of us far away from my house, which was all I needed at this point.

It was beautiful up here, and one of the only places I could ever come to think. Odd how something so amazing and breathtaking could be so unknown to humanity. But I suppose it makes sense, the human race has far too many flaws to keep a place like this as it is. Everything we touch dies.
" Man are you okay ? " Asked my best friend, Bane, from beside me. " You've seemed worked up ever since you came out of the house. " he pointed out.
" Yeah, I'm fine. Just some more stupid sh*t with my family again, as always. " I insisted, looking down at my swinging legs that hung off of the edge of the cliff.
Bane was silent for a moment, looking out at the setting sun in the distance. " It'll get better. " he said, patting my back reassuringly.
Somehow I strongly doubt that.
I thought to myself, closing my eyes with my head hung low. Sucking in a breath I looked up at the horizon, admiring the view you had from here.
" Amazing... " Bane breathed from beside me. I looked over and saw that he too was looking out over everything.
I gave a small smile an turned my head once again to look. " Yeah... "
" Come on, " Said Bane suddenly, jumping to his feet and extending his hand to help me up.
I looked up at him. " Where are we going ? " I asked in confusion but took his hand and let him pull me to my feet.
" To go do something stupid. You have to cheer up somehow don't you ? " he said with a excited tone to accompany the devilish and mischievous grin that had surfaced on his face in a matter of seconds.
" Oh god... That doesn't sound very pleasant. " I said, hesitantly following him to where he had parked- well, skidded the car to a stop- about an hour ago.
Bane laughed and looked back at me with a wide smile. That's the kid I know and grew to love, the one that could make anything better, that could always make me happy again even in my darkest hours. " Oh it will be, " he said and a considerate look appeared. " For us at least. "
