Del ran down the sidewalk as fast as she could. She ran past office building after office building before finally reaching the tiny apartment complex on Cherry St. She opened the door to the coffee place underneath the apartments and ran over to the elevator. She repeatedly pushed the elevator button. "Come on! Damn it!" She grumbled. It finally opened and a woman and her children were inside. Del practically pushed them out before closing the elevator door. She hit the button "4" and rocked back and forth, waiting impatiently for the elevator to stop. She ran down the hall and to the left stoping at room 216. She pulled out her house key and frantically tried to open the door. Once she got inside she slammed the door and threw her bag down. "Christine!! Chris?! Where are you?! I got great news!!" She yelled searching for her older sister. "Chris! I did it! I got the gig at Daryl's Place on Friday!" Del cried out again. When Del didn't hear a response she knew something was wrong. "Christine!?" She called out again. It was dark inside. Del crept down the hall to Christine's room and slowly opened the door to find a sobbing Christine underneath the bed sheets. "Chris?!" She gasped before running to her bedside. "What is it?! What's wrong!?" She asked. "I didn't get it Del...I didn't get the part!" She cried into her pillow. Del had almost forgot that her sister had tried out for an upcoming musical today. "Hey! It'll be okay! What part did you get?" Del asked her. "The maid! I can't be the maid!" She cried even louder. "Chris! The maid is a supporting character! That's great!" Del tried to comfort her sister. Christine sat up. "I know, but I can do so much better Del." "I know you can do better. Everyone in the world is going to know it one day! You've made progress Chris. You'll get there in time." Del said hugging her sister. "Cheer up, I'll call Adam and let's watch a movie here tonight." Del said. Christine wiped her tears. "Thanks Del. You're right." She smiled. As Del started for the door Christine called for her again. "And Del?" She turned around. Christine held up a cream colored envelope with a red seal, grinning softly. Del smiled, but really...her heart had just broke. "Don't tell anyone just yet okay?! I want it to be a surprise!" Christine giggle. "Y-yeah, of course." Del said stepping into the hall, a tear rolling down her face.
"Alright I heard someone was upset so I brought ice cream and a romantic comedy." Said Adam walking through the door. "Dude! How did you get in? Why didn't you knock!?" Asked Del. "I know where you keep the spare key. He said pulling it out and putting it on the dining room table. "Real classy Adam." Christine said walking into the living room. "Hey! How's our favorite actress superstar today? Feeling better?" Adam asked hugging Christine. "Heh. Yeah I'm fine. What ice cream did you bring?" She asked. "It's always about the food with you isn't it?" Asked Del, jokingly. Adam laughed, "Mint chip your favorite! Duh!" Christine frowned. "That's Del's favorite..." she complained. "Come on Chris. Chill out." Del laughed. "Wow Del, you never stop with the puns do you?" Adam said. "I am pretty punny aren't I?" She laughed. "You are the worst." Christine said. Adam popped the movie into the DVD player and sat on the couch with his friends. They all huddled up and began to watch the movie, but about 20 minutes in they were all asleep.
"Del? Christine?! Open up you guys, it's ten'o clock!" Yelled a voice. Christine sat up and yawned. "Who is it?" She called out. "It's Trace. Come on guys your shift started 10 minutes ago!" He called through the door. "Oh no! Oh no no no no!!" Christine cried. "Adam! Del! Wake up now!" She yelled at them. "Come on Christine. I don't even work at Coffee House!" Adam whined. "GET OUT!" She yelled again. "Fine! Fine." Adam said dragging himself to the door before leaving. Trace ran in. "WHO WAS THAT GUY?!" He yelled. "Calm down Trace. You know Adam he's a friend from next door. We were up late watching a movie." Said Christine getting ready. "Why did he stay the night here?! What if he was a sicko or something?" Trace said. "Daw is someone worried about us." Said Del waking up. Trace blushed a little. "Come on guys! I'm just looking out for you. And hurry up!" Trace said. "Well I better go get ready. Can you cover for us for a little bit longer?" Del pleaded. "Yeah...of course." He said leaving the apartment. "You're the best Trace!" Del yelled. She heard him mumble something from the hall but couldn't make out what he said. Christine came down the hall tying her smock on before throwing Del's at her. "Come on Del!" She said. "I'm ready!" Said Del tying her smock. She put on her house slippers and left the apartment.
"You are not wearing house slippers to work!" Christine cried as they walked to work. "Why not? Boss never comes in, and it's not like anyone will tell him. Technically everyone breaks dress code. Including you!" Del said pointing at her sisters shorts. "Yea but, you're just Unprofessional like that." Christine said as they exited the elevator. "Trace likes my style. Right Trace?" Del asked her friend. "Heh you too?" He said showing he was wearing the exact same slippers as Del. Trace high fived Del. "You really shouldn't encourage her..." Christine sighed. "Come on Christine, she's happy. This is the happiest she's been in a while...How are you?" He asked sincerely. "It's definitely been hard without mom and dad. I know it was 3 years ago, but it still hurts sometimes." Christine sighed. "Chris! There's people waiting at tables! I'm not playing waitress for you again! I work behind the counter!" Del called at Christine. "I'm going!" She started. "Thanks for being there for her Trace. You mean a lot to her." Christine said before walking into the morning rush. Trace walked over to Del. "Hey Del!" He smiled. "Sup Trace." She said as she bagged a to go order. "So...you busy Friday?" He asked nervously. "Yea the band and I have a gig at Daryl's Place. Isn't that great?!" She exclaimed, bagging another order. "Oh..." he sighed. "Actually I don't have to be there until 6...Want to do something before?" Del asked. "Yea that'd be great!" He smiled. "Yea, Christine doesn't really like it when I go out by myself. Plus We haven't done stuff together in a while." She said. "Of course." Trace said. He wasn't paying attention to what he was doing, and the order he was pouring overflowed on himself. "Heh, nice one klutz." Said Del going to get some paper towels. Trace smiled, his friend was starting to perk up again. At least he thought.
