Edith's POV

The path through the forest was our little shortcut to reach to the village. Many people are unaware of this path and use the road near the river. Then again, the river seemed like a much safer route than through this forest.
I remember my days of passing through the forest with Uncle Gallien. He would try to scare me telling tales of creatures living inside the dense woods, looking for a meal to prey on. I was never shown I was scared but inside my mind, I was terrified of those creatures.

The forest was really thick and dim, but there were still some small light that would show me where I was going. The trees grew till astounding heights and their branches occasionally whacked me in the head.

Today, the weather seemed rather dark. The sky was filled with grey clouds and a light, chilling breeze blew on the trembling leaves of the trees. Something didn't feel right. Someone or something, was watching.

My horse had stopped. He was frightened of something, but what?
Time had froze for a second. My thumping heartbeat was the only sound I heard.  I tried to comfort my horse, Chevan, by petting him but he was still afraid.  There was silence in the air. Nothing was heard, not even the soft swaying leaves and branches.   Then, some branches broke off a tree and scared us to death.  Chevan galloped away, avoiding trees and jumping rocks getting as far away from there as fast as he could. As he turned rough corners and jumped over large logs I nearly fell over but managed to stay on top of Chevan, and not get left behind.

We had finally reached the exit of the forest and met up at the entrance of the village which was only a kilometer away. Chevan was still hyper but eventually he cooled down.

I  turned around breathing slowly and stared into the forest. My eyes were looking for something but I didn't know what. I knew something was there, I knew that it wasn't just a regular woodland creature. It was something else.
We turned toward the city and started trotting off. Suddenly, a soft menacing growl was heard behind us which made the birds in the trees fly out of the forest and into the city.

Whatever it was in that forest, it was large, and certainly had an interest in me.
