Why do all the planets line up?

When the sun was in about 4.5 billions years ago,
The cloud of gas and dust surrounding it began to collapse in on itself.

With no other force to counteract that already-moving matter,
The cloud compressed and spun faster.

This caused it to flatten out into a disc called a solar nebula.

Scientist believe planets formed through accretion,
Where grains of dust and cloud of gas slowly clumped together,
Which collided with one another to form baby planets and, eventually, planets.
