Empty House

Chapter: 2

I drove back to the small house I had managed to buy with the loan Rusty so graciously gave me after a year of working for her. After pulling into the driveway I parked the truck in the garage and I walked over to the back fence to call Murray our bulldog.

" Murray.. Come here girl.. come see momma!" I called as she ran up to me.

I reached through the fence and rubbed her belly and laughed when she started kicking her back leg. After I played with her for a minute I went on into the house and dropped my keys on the table and kicked my boots off by the door next to Cole's extra pair. I was home alone and needed a shower so I stripped my clothes off and put them in the dirty clothes hamper leaving me in my bra and panties. I tucked my phone in my bra and went to the refrigerator for a beer. I twisted off the top and tossed it into the garbage on my way out of the kitchen and up the stairs to our room.

I walked over to Cole's dresser and took out his Atlanta Braves tee shirt that he wore the night before he left knowing that he was leaving and that I would needs his smell to be able to sleep. I laid it across the bed and went over to my dresser where I stopped to take a swig of my beer before getting a sports bra and panties out to sleep in. Have you ever had one of those people that you just really didn't like talking to so you set their ringtone to something you didn't mind listing to? Yeah well that's how I was with my mom.. Her and I didn't have the best of relationships so as her ringtone played I danced my way to the bathroom with my beer in hand.

I reached over into the our rounded bathtub rolling my hips as I turned on the water deciding on a hot soak instead of a shower. When the ringtone stopped I pulled my phone from my bra and put on my bath time play list and put it on the side of the tub before stripping down to the bare me and climbing in.. Yes with my beer in hand. I settled down in the tub and when I heard Cole's song "Lemme Me See You" start to play I smiled and picked it up to answer it.

" Hey babe!" I answered excited to hear his voice.

" Hey girl." He said and my smile grew just hearing his sexy tone.

" How were your interviews?" I asked him taking another sip of beer.

" They went well.. Umm.. That's kinda what I'm calling for.. I know I said that I'd be home when you got off from work tonight but the guys kinda want to stay an extra night or two... So I'll be really late coming home tomorrow or the next day." He told me and the smile fell from my face.

" Again Cole? Really?" I asked frustrated.

" Oh come on Shelby it's just an extra night or two." He huffed.

" Yeah but it's not like this is an every now and then thang Cole.. It's an every damned city thang.. I know this is all new and exciting for ya but soon you will have your record deal and before you know it you'll be on tour and I'll be without you for months at a time I just thought you would want to spend all the time we could together before then." I said down hearted.

" Fine I'll come home late tonight and meet you at the bar then." He told me sounding annoyed.

" No.. Just stay Cole I'll probably be late comin in tonight anyway. We have a new artist comin to perform tonight and they have requested the party lounge before and after the show. Rusty asked me to run the lounge for him and his crew so there is no tellin what time we will close anyway." I told him.

" Him and his crew? Who is he?" He asked sounding jealous.

" I don't know but I'll let to go so you and the guys can enjoy your day." I told him in an almost smart ass tone.

" No don't go baby I want to talk some more.. I really miss you.. So what are you doing? Are you in bed smuggled up in my shirt?" He asked trying to butter me up and keep me on the phone.

" No I'm layin in the tub in nothin with a beer." I told him and laughed when I heard him growl.

" Mmm.. Damn baby.. I miss you.. Feeling you snuggled up to my naked body.. I wish I were home with you" He said and I shook my head laughing knowing his words were spoken more out of hormones then feelings.

" Well babe I'll see you "whenever" you get home. I need to get off the phone and wash up the water is gettin cold and I need my sleep for my long night." I told him finishing off my beer.

" OK baby I love you." He pouted.

" I love you too Cole. Have fun with the boys." I told him.

" OK but you don't have too much fun at work tonight ok? Good night Shelby." He said only half kidding.

" Ha ha! Good night Cole." I said hanging up to finish my bath.

I finished my bath and dried off and threw my empty beer bottle in the trash before walking into the room to change into my under clothes and his shirt. I set my alarm on my phone for five thirty PM so I could get ready for work and as soon as my head hit the pillow a text came in.

I didn't reply my eyes were to heavy and before I knew it they were closed and sleep took over....
