[Ashlynn's POV]
CLANG! My eyes snapped open at the sound of clashing metal coming from the courtyard below. "Guys, guys wake up!" I said, shaking my friends awake. Rushing to the window, we saw that students and teachers were battling furiously against all kinds of twisted creatures. Suddenly, there was a whump sound and part of an axe smashed through the heavy wood door of our dorm. We screamed when we caught a glimpse of the creature trying to break in. It was a huge ape-like beast with claws and glowing red eyes.
"Quick, out the window!"
"What? We'll be trapped!" Leo said.
"No, we won't! Trust me!" I said as I climbed out as fast as possible. Leo went last, "Ahh get off!" I whipped around to see the ape creature's hand wrapped around Leo's ankle. Desperately flailing around, Leo managed to kick the hand hard enough and the creature's grip loosened enough for Leo to escape. Spurred on by the sound of furious roaring behind us, we hauled ass to the alcove above. Crawling inside, we were greeted with the sight of several very agitated hippogriffs, " Go get on!"
"What are those things?" Liash asked.
"I think they are hippogriffs!" I shouted back, "there's no way out, we have to use them..."
"How are we gonna hold on?" Jillian asked. Then we heard a roar and the sound of wood splintering. "No time! Just hang on!" I opened the pens of the hippogriff and they went rushing past us in a flurry of feathers and screeching. I saw Jillian and Leo get onto one and Liash grabbed hold of another. Holding it as best she could she screamed for me to get on too. We flew out of the hold just as the creature took a wild swing at the wing of our hippogriff. Its wickedly sharp claws scoured deep slashes in the wing of our hippogriff and with its screech of agony, we found ourselves plummeting to the ground below.
This is it...
Suddenly, I felt huge talons wrap around my torso and my shoulders and jerk me back into the sky. Looking up in shock, I saw that my rescuer was a rider sitting atop a gigantic black and red dragon. The figure made a waving motion with his hand and the world faded to black.
[Timandu's POV]
The girl looked at me in shock and with a wave of my hand she went limp in Arcanis' grip. Without a word, Arcanis turned back towards home and I commanded the twisted to cease their attack, "Enough. We got what we came for."
[Liash's POV]
Falling, falling, falling... My only thought was, 'I wanna get out of here!!" Suddenly a word popped into my mind. On instinct, I screamed it and suddenly I was back safely on the ground, watching the poor hippogriff crash to the ground in a crumpled heap, just seconds after I uttered the word. I collapsed to the ground in shock of how close I came to becoming a splat on the floor. I was panting and shaking in exhaustion as well, I only saw Jillian and Leo land their hippogriff, then I passed out.
[Jillian's POV]
Once Ashlynn let loose the hippogriff I randomly shoved Leo onto one and jumped on behind him. The creature didn't seem to care that we were on its back as it lept into the night sky. It was terrifying trying to stay on the hippogriff, my arms were wrapped so tightly around Leo that I thought I would break his ribs. Glancing back, I saw Ashlynn hop onto another hippogriff behind Liash just as the ape-monster reached the entrance and then in a flash, their creature got hit and they went spiraling down.
"Leo! Go down, we have to help them" I shouted over the wind.
"I can't get this thing to listen!" Leo shouted as he tried to pull the hippogriff towards our friends.
"No! Come on you stupid bird thing just dive and save our friends!" I shouted hopelessly at the hippogriff. Weirdly, I felt Leo totally relax and the hippogriff suddenly dived towards Liash and Ashlynn.
We were too late. A huge dragon materialised out if nowhere and plucked Ashlynn from behind Liash and with a few sweeps of its humongous wings, it disappeared into the night. Liash was still spiraling down and I thought I was going to have to watch my friend die but at the last second, she disappeared and reappeared on the ground.
Leo somehow finally got the hippogriff to land and we rushed to Liash just as she passed out.
"Liash? Liash?" I said as I shook her hoping she'll wake up.
"Jillian, stop. Let's just get her back to the main building and get Phillip to look at her" Leo said. Working together we lifted Liash up and put her on the hippogriff's back and together we walked back to the now deathly quiet school grounds.
