"I believe I have a story to tell."
Walang nagsalita nang sabihin iyon ng Vise Presidente, ni isa sa mga anak ay walang nakatingin sa kaniya. Maging si Liza at tahimik lang, hinihintay na magsalita ang asawa.
"Your mama's family was against us back then. Our family just got back from the exile and we just lost your lolo, without my father we were vulnerable. Her father didn't want her to be with me but we were young and stubborn. We broke his rules and went against his will." Liza's tears were threatening to fall while recalling all the sad events that happened to them that led to the loss of their daughter.
"We eloped and Mr. Araneta went ballistic. " Bongbong sadly chuckled as he remembers his father-in-law's reaction. "Itinakwil ng lolo ninyo ang inyong mama. She was stripped off of her rights as an Araneta. I didn't care. We love each other that much and it was us against the world that time." Liza held her husband's hands and silently cried.
"We got married secretly while in hiding and Liza got pregnant. I don't know how it happened but Mr. Araneta found out about it. We continued to hide but we can't leave the country because they will surely find us. He became powerful and influential after your lolo died. We made it until your mama was about to give birth, and... and she will be the one to tell you what happened next." Bongbong ended, fighting all the emotions he felt that moment and fighting the tears that were threatening to fall.
Liza nodded at her husband and pleaded her children to look at her. She couldn't stand the accusing eyes they were all giving them but she started anyway.
"My father found our location and he was informed that I just gave birth." She started shakily. "I was alone at the hospital because your papa was trying to contact his family for help. We had nothing that time. I knew they will take my baby away from me and I was hopeless." She said between sobs. It was hard to talk that moment. It was hard to take the burden she carried for 23 long years off her shoulders.
"Mabuti nalang dumating si Diana."
Eliz silently gasped when she heard her Nanay's name. Now, all her attention was with Liza.
"Kababata ko si Diana, anak siya ng mayordoma namin sa bahay noon at sabay kaming lumaki. She was my best friend." Liza tried to reach out to Eliz but the latter just looked away. Everytime Eliz did this, Liza's heart breaks.
"Siya ang tumulong samin na magtago. She knew that we were found so she risked her life and tried to save us but she didn't make it in time. My father's men were already at the hospital and I was afraid they will take my child away from me. They will surely catch us if we try to run together, so I made a decision." She tried to swallow the sob from her throat but to no avail, tears still continuously fell.
"I have to save my baby so I gave you, Eliz, to Diana to save your life. I told her to take you away, far from where we were and I promised to get you back once everything was settled."
"And it took you almost 24 years to settle everything." Eliz finally spoke, still no looking at her.
"No," Liza cried. "My father left us alone when they found out that I gave my child away. He told me that was the punishment of my disobedience. Your Papa got mad at me because I gave you away even before he got the chance to see and hold you." She looked at Bongbong and she could tell that the guy was longing to hold Eliz but her daughter was still dodging every attempt they made.
"We almost separated until my father died and everything went back to normal. My family accepted me again, my relationship with your father went back to normal but you were not there anymore. It was never the same again. We tried to contact Diana but we couldn't find her. We never stopped but they always give us the same result. We tried to live normally and had your brothers, Eliz, but it's not the same without you."
The last statement broke the hearts of the three guys.
"Glad to know our existence was not enough to fulfill your loss," Sandro said and Simon's eyes watered with rage.
"That is not what I meant." Liza tried to explain but words were already thrown.
"If she's really that precious, you shouldn't have gave birth to us," Simon seconded a tone higher than normal.
Bongbong stood. "You shouldn't talk to your mother that way. You don't know what we've been through. Hindi ninyo alam ang paghihirap namin nang mawala ang ate ninyo!"
"Then how about us? Did you even think about what we're going to feel after hearing that Mama just gave birth to us because she was longing for her daughter? Was she disappointed that after three trials no female baby was born?!"
"Simon, don't talk to your mother that way! You have no right!"
"Yes! We have no right! That very day that girl," Simon looked at Eliz then back to his father, "That day that girl was born we lost our right. Because the three of us have no right to say anything or feel hurt and should always be thankful because if you found her right away, I don't even know if anyone of us will have the chance to be born!"
Liza stood and hugged Simon from behind. "Anak, hindi ganun ang ibig kong sabihin."
"Mama, stop."
It was Vincent's crying face and shaking voice that made them all quiet.
"Vinny..." Liza whispered, still holding on to Simon.
"Are we really unworthy of the truth? Are you getting rid of us because that Eliz is here already?"
"Vinny..."
"If hurting us is the way of telling us that you don't want us anymore then you are doing a good job."
Bongbong and the rest of the Marcos family panicked, never once Vincent talked to them that way. The sweet Vinny would never say such words until that moment, that moment when Liza unintentionally broke his heart.
"I'm going back to London."
