Where were they? I Clutched my phone in my sweaty hands anxiously as I looked out the foggy windows of China's diner. Cars swiveled by on the wet patches of the road, as I continued to get lost in my thoughts. Not even the aroma of fresh crispy turkey bacon and buttery pancakes could shake away the nervous ache in my stomach. As I Dropped my forehead onto my arms, the sharp jingles of bells that hung on the door echoed out as Marigold and Danny entered in.
"Hey," Marigold said quickly as she sat beside me, her long tennis arms grasping the laminated light blue menus in front of the table.
"Sup," Said Danny smoothly, as he slid into the booth calmly, but the sight of fear that stung his bright brown eyes still showed me he was just as nervous and scared as everyone else was.
"Where the hell is Logan and Sonny?" I said as I checked my phone again, no indication that I had received any missed calls or text.
"I tried calling them," Marigold said as she checked her phone hurriedly.
"Logan told me he's got family plans and other business to handle," said Danny shrugging his shoulders. "Sonny has to babysit her little sister."
"Family plans? Babysitting? Do they not realize that what we did last night was major and we can get in a shit load of trouble if we don't figure out what our next moves are?" I hissed as I looked around the quiet restaurant, soft classical music filling the area.
"I think we should talk about this somewhere private," squeaked Marigold.
"No we need to talk about this now!" I said as I snatched the blue menu right out of Marigold's hands.
"I mean what is there to plan about? What's done is done. We left Alia's body stranded on the road after the party," Said Danny as he slammed down his menu.
"What if the cops investigate?" Said Marigold as she pulled one of the ends of her bouncy curls. "I mean I'm pretty sure they've already found the foul scene we left behind."
"They won't find it," I said dismissively. "Did you see the way the car looked after the accident? It was beaten to a vault. Nobody could probably even tell it was even a car unless they study the engines. So it's better not to say a word-"
"A word about what?"
I didn't have to turn around twice to recognize the soft, scratchy, baby voice of Leslie Sniper, the Queen Bee of South Central Gossip.
"What do you want now, Leslie?" Said Marigold as she didn't bother to hide a flicker of annoyance.
Leslie stepped closer to our table, the small heels on her boots clicking against the tiled floor. She laid one of her skinny hands on her slender hips as she plastered on a crooked smile.
"I actually came to take your orders," she giggled as she shook out her long ebony red hair. "But I really came to ask why I didn't see you guys in school today? Did you hear what happened to your little friend of yours'?" She said as she clicked on the top of her pen noisily.
