Prince Ryker

Chapter 3

Making my way down the hall I searched for a guard, making sure to avoid where I had previously been as to not come across the same man as last time. Finally, after a few minutes, I found who I was looking for. He leaned against the far wall looking bored, stepping around the corner I came into his view. The man looked me up and down smiling as his gaze lingered on my chest.  

"What are you looking for honey? Anything I can help you with?" He asked as he pushed away from his spot on the wall and made his way to me. Taking in a breath I had to work hard not to run off in the opposite direction but I held firm. I have to do this for me and for Ryker. We both have to get out of this place before it kills us. "I don't know can you?" I asked looking up at him, trying to give him my most seductive look as I pushed my shoulders back making my breasts peak out of my shirt even more. 

This made him snap, the guard grabbed my arm and quickly dragged me down the hall to a dark alcove. He crushed me against the wall his lips pressing to mine harshly. The kiss was wet and gross, my eyes still wide open. Reaching down to place my hand on his waist, I let it linger there for a while to make sure he didn't notice what I was doing. The man obviously took it as a sign of me wanting more because his hand reached between us to cup my breast squeezing it hard. 

I let out a whimper of pain as he grabbed me but he didn't seem to notice. Reaching my hand lower I slid it over the gun holstered at his hip. Without waiting another moment I slammed my heel down on the inside of his foot and ripped the gun from its holster. The guard stumbled back, but before he could take another step I slammed the butt of the gun into his temple as hard as I could. Instantly he crumpled to the floor. 

Not wanting to linger any longer I shoved him onto his side, quickly searching his pockets for keys. Finally finding them on a peg attached to his belt. Taking the gun and keys I ran back to the dungeon. Coming to the door of Ryker's cell I saw that he was in the same place I had left him. 

Unlocking the door I opened it, falling to my knees I grabbed him under the arms. Moving I helped him stand Ryker let out a groan of pain as he stood. "I'm sorry but we have to go, this might be your only chance to escape." Ryker nodded, as we kept moving. Exiting the cell we began to make our way out of the dungeon. 

His body leaned heavily into mine, steeling myself I continued to push on. This is our only chance, we have to get out of here. Exiting the dungeon we made our way down the dark corridor. Ducking into the darkness a few times when guards came running past. But we were able to avoid them for now. 

Finally reaching the servant's exit we slipped outside. A wave of crisp night air washed over me. A chill filled the late autumn night but it was a relief as it washed over my sweat-dampened skin. Glancing over to Ryker I saw his eyes were shining with fever, his body covered in sweat, with shivers running over him. "You have a fever," I stated with concern. 

"I will be fine, let's keep going before anyone sees us. We just have to cross into another pack's territory." Ryker said pulling us both forward. "The closest pack is around 15 miles to the east, I think it's the Raven Pack." Instantly he shifted us so we were now moving towards the east. 

Walking as fast as we could my mind still raced, heart, thundering with fear. I'm really doing this, I'm really leaving, after all these years I might actually make it out. Pushing through the initial undergrowth of the forest we slipped into the cover of darkness it provided. But now there is a new obstacle in front of us. Getting through without being noticed. I know there are guards that patrol the woods but I have never made it this far out. So I have no idea of their patterns or timing. This thought pushes me forward. 

We only make it a few more yards before Ryker stumbles. I can feel how weak he is, his blood now coating my arm as I try to keep him upright. It takes a moment but he regains his footing. Ryker presses forward, my arm wrapped tightly around him, his arm now slung over my shoulders using it as another anchor. 

After getting a mile or so into the forest that's when we hear it. Behind us, a loud howl ripped through the trees alerting every pack member to what was going on. Soon all of them would be searching for the escaped prisoner if they haven't already begun. Ryker glanced at me and we shared a grim look. Begining to jog we moved as quickly as we dared. 

In the distance behind us I heard the snap of branches, and the crunch of fallen leaves. Picking up the pace even more I tried to drag Ryker with me, but he began falling behind his weight dragging me down. "Just leave me behind, they won't chase you if they have me. Get to the Raven pack and tell them my name and what happened. They will help you." He said. 

"No I won't leave you behind, we are both going to get out of here," I said pulling him to my side once again. His silver eyes met mine and I could see them pleading for me to leave him. Breaking away from his look I continued dragging him along as the sound of paws grew louder and ever closer. 

A second low howel breaks the quiet once again, and not a moment later we are completely surrounded. The wolves circled us snapping their teeth and growling. Shrinking away from them I pressed closer to Ryker. Beginning to tremble I tried to step as far away as I could from their snapping jaws. Ryker pulled me behind him pressing me to his back as he took a protective stance in front of me. Even with all of his injuries, he is still trying to protect me. 

With his wounds still raw and bleeding, he stood there like a guardian, using his own body to shield me from the rouges. The wolves circled closer, leaving us even less space than before. Then they stopped making way for Jacob the alpha of the rogues to break through the circle. Jacob's cruel, uncaring gaze met mine. 

"Well look what we have here."
