Resting my head back against the wall I tapped my fingers against my knee. I had been able to get a few hours of sleep in but after they took Ryker into surgery I couldn't sleep anymore. The doors at the end of the hall banged open as Reara walked through. Standing quickly I walked over to meet her.
"Is Ryker okay?" I asked my heart racing in my chest. "His highness surgery ended a little while ago. He is in stable condition now, I came to see if you would like to go in and see him." She said.
Letting out a sigh of relief I nodded. She turned away from me and began to walk back down the hall, following behind her it was all I could do to keep myself from sprinting ahead. Finally reaching the end of the hall we stopped in front of a door. Reara nodded at me before turning to leave.
Standing alone in front of the closed-door I took in a deep breath, not hesitating any longer I pushed the door open. Entering the room I froze in the doorway. In front of me, Ryker laid on a bed, bandages covering his torso and parts of his arms. All the blood and dirt had been washed off. Finally unfreezing I walked over to the chair closest to his bedside. Taking a seat I looked over him closer.
Unable to help myself I leaned forward, running the tips of my fingers across his cheek. Ryker's skin was warm and soft beneath my touch. His lashes flickered for a moment before opening to reveal shining silver eyes. They seemed brighter than ever before, almost liquid in color. Pulling my hand back quickly I stood, then lowered myself into a deep bow. "I am so sorry your highness," I said not rising from my bowed position.
"Rose what are you doing?" Ryker asked shifting in his bed. Straightening slightly I looked at him. "You don't have to bow to me, Rose."
Confused at his words I shook my head. "But you are a price of course I have to. I should have before, but I wasn't aware of who you were."
Shaking his head he reached his hand out grasping mine. Ryker pulled me to the side of the bed once again. Letting go of my hand he reached up and cupped my cheek. The bandages on his hand rubbed against my skin roughly. But I could feel his warm skin through them. Leaning into the touch I pressed my face closer to him.
"Are you alright?" Ryker asked still holding my cheek. "Yes, I'm just tired." At that, his hand dropped from my cheek. As soon as the contact was broken I felt the cold loss of his touch.
"Come here," Ryker said as he moved onto his side making room on the bed. A spark of fear flickered to life in my gut, past horrors trying to rear their ugly heads at this moment. I felt my entire body stiffen as I tried to push them back. "I am not going to hurt you Rose I promise all I want is for you to get some rest. We are both so tired, so please sleep here. That is all I want I swear it." Ryker said as he moved even further back making more space for me on the bed.
Pushing away my fears for a moment I took his hand and climbed in next to him. Ryker let me go allowing me to settle in. I felt him push even further away from me trying to give me as much space as possible. But I didn't want to be afraid of him. I know Ryker would never hurt me. I moved closer to him, grabbing his arm I pulled him closer to me. Ryker paused for a moment before wrapping a protective arm around me.
Feeling my fear spike for a moment I fought my instant to pull away. Allowing myself to calm down I pressed closer to him loving the heat of him. Slowly I drifted off feeling safe and whole in his arms.
