Aspins POV
"Good Evening Ms.Rider, I'm Mrs.Westwar the warden it's a pleasure to finally meet you although from your emails I pictured you well, a bit older."
Every word this woman spoke was attention breaking she spoke so sweet with a strong British accent. She was very young herself too. To young to have been running an asylum for longer than a few months.
"Yes I know I just got out of high school and I'll be attending Columbia this fall. I plan to get my degree and become a psychologist but as for now I'm applying for the counselors assistant because I don't quite have the necessities to be a counselor yet. You seem pretty young yourself"
"I can see that. You've chosen an interesting profession. It takes bravery and a nosey one for the job. But yes I am young only 21 actually. My mother was the warden but she's... you could say retired now so I took over about a year ago."
"What a lovely inheritance this place is pretty old right?"
"Over 150 years old it's been in our family for generations it's a huge pride to have taken it on. Now we should get to your tour Ms.Rider, Welcome to Rosewood home for the mentally insane."
She led the way and I followed behind scoping out every inch of my new environment. My new workplace that is.... this place is enormous. I have the same interest as my father. It didn't turn out to well for him but I'm smarter.
I saw each cell, each patient, the dining halls, and I even saw them during their outside time. I've never seen such a huge variety of people. Some looked normal like me and westwar there didn't seem to be a thing wrong with them. A few others however were strangely deformed. They're features were something you would see in a movie and to different for me to describe. One man, a tall slender man with long red hair was the only one who said something to me.
We were walking him along with three guards to the dining hall. It seemed strange to me that one man needed three guards twice his size in strength to escort him down a single hallway.
"I know what you're thinking, I can hear your thoughts and I know what you're thinking all the time." His voice was eerie and very slow it took him the whole walk to get that sentence out. He gave every word its own voice and I know I have to deal with it on a daily for this job but he sent chills down my spine. He tried to touch my shoulder, even raising his arm he was slow..... his hand was big enough to wrap around my shoulder and I knew he could hurt me with no problem.
"CUT THAT SHIT OUT ALLEN!"
The dark guard yelled at him and didn't seem to care that he was smaller than Allen. He had protection.... Allen didn't.
As we entered the dining halls it was surely a sight. Many patients roamed the room. Some sat and talked to others, played board games, or just listened to the record player which seemed odd to me being that it is the 21st century where actual stereos are easily accessible and much more sturdy than an old record player but hey it's not my decision to make. While the whole room seemed normal there were a few patients out of their mind. One old lady sat in a rather large green chair rocking back and forth, turning her head from side to side at a constant rate and talking to no one but herself. Another woman, she seemed young from her figure but her face had aged before her. She banged her head consistently on the soft wall. I understand now why the walls are a mushy material, it must have cost a fortune.
Westwar led me back to her office.
"So with seeing our institution are you still interested in the job we have to offer. Also I would like to ask you not to mind the messiness I'm renovating this place my mothers style was to bland"
"More than ever now"
"Well how delightful, I'll see you off Ms.Rider and we'll let you know within the next week, Goodbye."
I nodded my head to her and walked out of the building.
"OH MY GOD HI how are you who are you whyareyoouuu u-uh-uh I'm leny hi!"
A little girl full of excitement thrusted her arm hand out to me as a greeting. She was very loud and spoke so fast she stumbled over her words, I had never seen so much energy in a child before."Hi leny I'm Ms.rider pleased to meet you"
I took her hand in mine and she shook it vigorously.
"I like you. You're pretty. You have pretty hair wow!"
She reached for my head and barely touched my hair before completely changing subjects. It was like she forgot she even talked to me. Her energy left her and she was sulking. She turned around and walked to smell a bush with flowers.
"Who are you."
Her voice was deep, slow, and calm now. I looked at her confused.
"Leny come on in now honey it's time for dinner."
Mrs.Westwar shouted out at her. Her response was a bit mumbled and all I managed to perceive from it was that she said "I'm not leny I'm marise."
