{Next Day}
Avery was out sick. She had the flu.
"I guess she's just got to get used to the Canadian air." her mom said that morning when I walked over to take her to school.
"Okay." I said. "Tell her I hope she feels better." Her mom smiled, and nodded, shutting the door on me. I walked to school, alone. Small snowflakes began to fall, and I wished Avery was here to see them.
'Maybe tomorrow we can build a snowman together.' I thought. 'She can't be that sick.' I walked up the steps of the school building and threw open the doors.
I walked towards my correct hall, and braced myself for the football players that were always waiting for me at the front entrance. I quickly took off my jacket, putting it on my shoulder, and made sure all my electronics were stuffed away safely. No need for the guys to break my things when they want to break me.
But, today, as I passed by the guys as they all leaned against the walls of the hall, they seemed to not notice me as I passed. I slowed my pace, just incase this was a trick, so I could hear them when they say "Get him!" so I could run off before they could catch me.
That never came.
Instead, one of them patted me on the back.
"Where's Avery?" he asked. I mentally groaned. Now that she's not here, it's a free pass to kick my ass.
"Sick." I answered, trying to sound confident. The guy patted my shoulder.
"Hope she feels better." he said, and walked off. I walked down the hall, shocked that he didn't shove me to the ground.
"Yo, Justin!" Josh yelled.
"Hey." I said as cooly as possible.
"Heard your girlfriend was sick." he said. "Sorry to hear that." I shot him a funny look.
"Girlfriend?" I asked.
"Avery." Josh said. "Duh. You two hang out enough to be a couple. She choose you over me." I chuckled slightly, and Josh shot me a glare, but walked off.
'Avery?' I thought. 'My..girlfriend?' A smile spread across my face at the thought. I walked into class, and it seemed like no one cared for my presents. No one tossed paper at me, or popped their rubber bands at me.
"Is it true?" Ryan asked as I took a seat at my desk. "The rumors?" I debated whether or not I wanted to answer him. I was still pissed at him for the other day, when he ditched me.
Before I answered, the bell interupted me. I took a seat, and didn't bother to answer Ryan until maybe after class.
Depends on how I feel.
-Avery-
I rolled out of bed, my head throbbing. I don't know if it was allergies, or what, but I felt like...crap. Mom told me Justin came by. My heart skipped a beat.
I don't think I've ever met a guy as nice as him. I slipped on some sweat pants, since it was past noon, and a hoodie before sitting at my desk, and logging onto facebook.
All my friends at home were in school, except a few who were probably on their phones during class. Drew, my best friend since Kindergarden, wanted to chat.
"Whats up, Av?" he sent. I smiled at the smiley face next to the message.
"Sick." I replied.
"Awwww!" he put. "I'm sowwy!" he added. I giggled at his childish talk.
