All she could hear was the sound of her breathing and leaves crunching under her footsteps. Goosebumps ran up and down her arms. The scenery around her was dark, and very blurry. She tried so hard not to trip as she made her way through the woods. Her eyes welled up with tears, uncontrollably from the stinging pain she felt on her stomach.

"Ahh!" She fell back, almost hitting her head on a tree. Her eyes blinked, hoping she didn't see what she thought she saw. A body? A dead body? Half of it? The pale lifeless body seemed to stare into her soul, it's eyes still open. She remembered hearing something on the news about a murder, not knowing if it was animal or human caused. Her heart pounded in her chest and her throat tightened. She had to leave. Struggling to her feet, she ran as fast as she could.

"Nessa?" She shone her flashlight at her sister who was waiting at the car. "Ro- Hey! You're bleeding!" Vanessa ran to her sister, her grey pajama pants flowing as she ran. "You need to go to the hospital-"
"No, no it's not as bad as it looks, see?" She lifted her shirt, the scratch small but the bleeding ten times worse. She just wanted to go home. "What happened?!" Vanessa walked her sister to the car. Veronica whined from the pain as she felt it sting. "I-I don't even know, Nessa." Veronica held onto the open car door as her sister rushed to the back to get a towel. Wrapping it around her twins wound slowly, Veronica kept her eyes shut, trying her best not to freak out. "I'm surprised you're not puking." Roni opened one eye to glance at her stomach. "Me too." When nessa was done wrapping, Vanessa noticed something and her eyes widened. "..What?" Veronica saw the small bit of worry in her eyes. "You got blood on my bra!" Nessa blurted, huffing. Veronica bursted out laughing, then realized it hurt to so she stopped and just smiled. "Wow. Thanks for worrying more about the bra than me, I appreciate it." She spoke sarcastically, slowing sitting in the passenger seat. "Hm. Well I'm not the one stealing bras, am I?" Nessa giggled then shut the car door, running around to the drivers seat.

The rain poured down hard as they drove. "Oh, my glasses! I have my phone but not my glasses-they fell off.." Roni noticed as they drove up to their driveway quietly. "Roni, no, don't worry about that. We gotta get you cleaned up.." Vanessa got out of the car and raced to her twins side, carefully helping her out. "Hey, hey, take it easy.." Veronica nodded and tried not to rush herself as they headed inside, as quiet as possible. "Where's tiger?" Veronica whispered, hoping not to alarm their father. He would be waking up soon. Vanessa dragged her twin to the bathroom. "Oh, in my room, so he wouldn't wake up dad when we came in, sit down." Vanessa shut the bathroom door and had Veronica sit down on the closed toilet seat. "Oh, nurse Nessa, please fix me up." Veronica said in an old lady accent, grinning, trying to distract herself from the pain. Nessa laughed. "Don't talk, that might make it worse." Vanessa quietly got a bandage wrap. "Stand up, let me see.." Vanessa bit her thumb, grossed out by the whole thing but wanted to help. As Veronica unwrapped the towel, Nessa covered her mouth and turned the other way, quickly. "Nope, nope.. Not good with blood." She giggled then took a deep breath. "Agh.. Okay.. This might sting." Vanessa got soap and water, carefully washing away the blood and trying to clean her sisters wound. Veronicas muscles tightened and she tried with all her might to not scream. She grabbed ahold of her sisters arm, squeezing it as the pain came then slowly faded. As she finished wrapping her wound, Veronica took deep breaths, tightening her eyes, trying to make sense of it all. Vanessa saw how painful this was for her. "I'm so sorry—I shouldn't have dragged you out there, that was stupid."
"No, no, you were trying to be a good person.." Veronica gave her sister a tired smile, then put one finger on her lips, turning off the lights of the bathroom. "I just need sleep." Veronica walked into her room and shut the door as soon as her sister went into hers. It was 5:15am. They had to be up in 30 minutes. At least it would give her time to think.
Veronica tossed and turned as she slept. All she saw was the red eyes. 'Those vicious eyes—what did they want? Did they hurt me?' She didn't want to think about it because the idea to her was stupid. Werewolves? No such thing. Only on tv shows and movies. She must've seen things. Even the body. That wasn't real. It couldn't have been real. She didn't have her glasses on—the animal was probably was a mountain lion, right? Her thoughts kept her mind going. But she kept dreaming. The wolf—the animal, whatever it was, turned into a tall, dark figure. She watched it stand up and run away; the way a human would.

They twins pulled their bikes into the bike rack of the schools parking lot. Vanessa was about to speak until an expensive car drove up beside them. Once the engine stopped, the driver opened the door and hit Veronicas side, surprising her, causing her to look up. "Watch the paint job." The fierce eyed girl glared at Veronica. The girls hand rested on the red sports car, seeming to try and intimidate them. "Hey, Colleen, come here!" A few girls from across the street called for her. She made eye contact with Veronica once more then walked off, her curly hair bouncing away.
"Okay, let's see this thing.." Vanessa said as they walked to the front of the school, moving away from crowds. Veronica lifted her shirt at an angle so you could only see the bandage and part of her stomach. "Ooh.." Vanessa spoke, raising her eyebrows. A little bit of blood had seeped through, not making Veronica worry too much as she hoped it would heal. But she couldn't make sense of what she saw. Well, she could but didn't think anyone would believe her. Pulling her light blue sweatshirt back down, the two started to walk. "I couldn't see much, but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf.." Vanessa laughed, glancing at her sister to assure her she was joking. Veronica didn't laugh. "What? No way, Roni. A wolf bit you?" Vanessa shook her head. "Yes!" Her twin got a little frustrated from her disbelief. "They haven't been in California for 60 years." Veronica raised her eyebrows, sighing. "Okay, fine. Whatever. But if you think that's insane, then you won't believe this." She lowered her voice. "Remember the news on Sunday? About the mystery of the body?" Vanessa nodded, her eyes widened with curiosity. "I-I saw it. I found it." Veronica swallows hard, remembering the image then shook it out of her mind. "Are you kidding me?" Vanessa almost yelled out her response, causing them to get a few glares. Her ponytail moved back and forth as she waited for a response. "No." Veronica sighed. "That is crazy. That's seriously going to be the best thing that's happened to this town since-" Vanessa's eyes stuck to him as he went, the most popular guy in school walking close to them with his friends. Vanessa continued, but whispered. "The birth of Aaron Van Wormer." Veronica noticed the hopeless love in her sister eyes as he walked. Nessa squealed, smiling at her sister. Roni was so tempted to say "Get over him." But just laughed along as the bell rang.
"As you all know, there was a body found in the woods last night." The teacher scribbled on the chalkboard. Veronica glanced back at her sister, making eye contact then looking back to the front of the room. "And I'm sure your mind are coming up with various theories on what happened." Veronica rested her head on the palm of her hand, trying her best to stay awake. "I'm here to tell you that the police—" he turned around, "have a suspect in custody, which means we can continue the syllabus which so happens to be on your desk right now." Everyone groaned. They were all just as curious as Veronica was, even though she witnessed it first hand. She didn't know if what she saw was exactly what happened or not.
Startling Veronica, the sound of a phone ringing bursted through her ears. She squinted her eyes in discomfort, looking around the classroom frantically. Everyone's eyes were on the paper. 'Why is it so loud?' She then heard a voice that drew her in with the first sound. "Mum, calling on the first day is a little over doing it." An accent. He had an accent. British? Her eyes moved to the window. Outside, sitting on the bench was a boy, wearing a grey hoodie, scoping through his bag. "Everything but a pen.." She heard the slight bit of worry. "Oh wow, I couldn't actually forgotten a pen.." He sighed. "Okay, okay I have to go now mum. Bye." Setting the phone down, he hung his head. She heard him sigh. Then, the principal walked out, conversing with him as soon as she stepped out. "So, you were saying America isn't where you grew up?" The boy, about 5"7 spoke again with his calming accent. "I lived in Europe for 10 years, moved here once I turned 10. Changed schools too many times." She heard footsteps then the principals voice. They were no longer visible outside and she guessed they were inside the school now. "Hopefully Lighthouse will be your last stop for a while." As she heard more footsteps, her eyes moved slowly toward the door. It quietly opened as he stepped into the door, glancing around. He walked slowly as the principal spoke. "Class, this is our new student, Finnegan Harries. I expect you to do your best to make him feel welcomed." Veronica felt her heart beat fast as she looked at him. She noticed how he didn't make eye contact with anyone. She soon snapped out of staring as he took the seat behind her. She reached in her bag, pulling out a pen, turning around and smiling. His gaze looked confused, then he smiled brightly. "Thanks." He took the pen, leaving them to make eye contact for a few more moments until the teacher spoke again. The name "Finnegan" was all that ran through her mind.
